Servicing - Franchise Dealer or Independent (North West Location)

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a 2017 Superb mk3 2.0 TDi SEL Executive.  It had been serviced by the dealer network shortly prior to me purchasing it, and it is on the variable service interval.  The car is now on circa 68k miles.

Being based in Lancaster, who do people recommend for servicing?

Given the mileage am I best going to the franchise dealer?  What would those costs likely be?

Apart from the timing belt what other work might I be looking at given age / mileage?

Thanks!

These days I don't think there is much difference between independent and franchise. Especially 3yrs plus. I had a fabia from Vantage skoda morecambe and I always found the service good.

Hi,

Thank you for the reply.  Do we have any indication as to what are the typical prices for the various service items?

Thanks!

Giving that the car is out of warranty, and if you intend on keeping it for a good length of time,

i'd recommend diy, not only will you save a few quid, but more importantly you'll know that it has been done right  😃

buy a generic service book from ebay for a couple of ££  and stamp it yourself, and  keep all the receipts for oil, filters etc

when the time comes to sell the car, you'll be able to show all receipts etc, remember  buyers can also easily check  mot history online as well, which proves mileage and any work done to get through an mot.

if i was buying your car, i'd be much happier with a diy service history plus previous mot history checks, than a full main dealer or independent garage fully stamped service book.

Hi,

I have traditionally maintained my own cars but this is the youngest car I have owned by a long way, and understand some parts of the service routine involve specialist computer equipment (e.g. winding the park brake off)?

Thanks,

I've been servicing mine at Vantage Morecambe for the past few years and service has always been good and price reasonably competitive.

I’ve always used Skoda main dealers for our MKI Octavia and our MKI, II and, upto a couple of months ago, our MKIII. Never again. Their customer service is rubbish, the work shoddy and slow, chargeable courtesy cars (if you can get one) and they’re ridiculously expensive. It’ll now be going to our local VAG independent, who’s customer service is fantastic, the work is excellent and quick, have free courtesy cars and they’re a 1/3rd cheaper than a main dealer.

Hey  numskull which VAG indepedant did you use. Cheers buddy
