Can you have different remap profiles on different driving modes?

Featured Replies

I recently got my vrs tdi and I'm looking to remap it in the near future.

I'm just wondering if you can remap it in such a way that the different driving modes will make a difference on how the car drives. Like if its in sports mode it will drive at 220bhp or ifnits in eco mode it will drive at lower bhp but be alot more economical?

That's kind of what happens anyway.  It all depends on how you plan to get it remapped.  If you go for a replacement ECU, then the values will be fixed.  If you go for a plug-in in-line remap box, then you usually adjust the box for the different power values.  Speak to the manufacturer of the proposed solution and see what they say.

When I did mine it could be done but needed a replacement aftermarket ECU. Would have been something like £2k+ for the stuff needed and the maps from the guys I use. Decided it wasn't worth it. Just drive more gently if needed which 2as easier with the new map being smoother anyway.

What part would be required to do something like that?

Not entirely sure on the exact parts but a replacement ECU from a company like haltech should work. You need someone who knows what they are doing to program it though. The whole thing wouldn't be cheap. Prices have probably gone up since I looked which was 4-5 years ago.

Took my 2015 vRS TDi to ##!!##h in Manchester. They did rolling road remap on it, up to 236 bhp and 380 ftlb, no mechanical issues or adaptations. Could do more but would likely need cooling alterations too. I think several places use a Revo map, which gives very similar results I believe. I was under the impression, rightly or wrongly, that the map does change the power available in the different modes, although I leave mine in sport cos it's fun. The cost was about £400, although was a couple of years ago. I'd think any decent remap folks would be able to answer your question, but I defo wouldn't be buying a new ECU at them costs.

Don't know why it put all them symbols in,  it did say D...e...r...v..t...e...c...h

Hope that works😉

Mines a standard 245 and there is a noticeable power difference between the eco and sport modes, besides the throttle response changes. The on screen boost gauge confirms less boost in eco mode also. Not sure if this gauge is any good though!

Isn't it the same with the TDI?

This is more likely due to throttle pedal mapping and not engine mapping.

Understood. But why is the boost gauge reading lower across the whole rev range in eco mode?

Could be 2 things:

1) The engine is under less load so not producing as much boost.

2) They have done it on purpose to make you think you are getting more boost in sport mode.
