Estate boot not opening

Featured Replies

I have a mkiii 2016 estate with a manual boot and today it just wouldn't open. I noticed that there was a bag handle part caught in the boot, took it out but still nothing. When I press the button on the boot I can hear it trying to open, but doesn't.

No errors or warnings in the car tried the boot& door unlock with the same result.

I also tried and failed to open the boot from the inside with a screwdriver using the recommended emergency opening option in the manual, but I can't feel any latch that I should be trying to open.

Any ideas how to get it open, as i need to load up the car tomorrow with a lot of stuff.

Have you tried the manual interior release and someone kicking / shoving inside simultaneously?

When my Passat battery failed, the manual release didn't 'pop', I had to have someone lift the tailgate at the same time.

Thanks tried that with no luck either. Has the load the car via the back seat and leave the lab at home 😢

Dealer tells me I need a new latch which seems a bit much as I didn't bang it too much, so I'd say it won't be my last one.
