Rear Roof Interior Light

Featured Replies

It is starting to bug me that my Fabia VRS has no rear interior light. I'm thinking of installing one. Is there anyone on here that has done this? Surely there must be 🤔. Is it as simple as running connections from the front light? And also is there a VRS that comes from factory with a light fitted cause the roof seems rather flat back there.

Thanks if you have any info on this

I know that there were map lights added to Korban's Fabia Mk1, so hopefully you could pull something from this...

The only factory fitted rear lights are on car with the factory fitted sun roof like my one

It feels odd seeing one of those interior lights in the rear as that's the one I've got in the front of my Mk1 Fabia... :D

Sorry can't post pictures as car was written off last year but i fitted 2 rear light cluster fittings from a VW Passat they were the rocker panel type centre for normal down for on all the time and up for off, you could use a universal single light in the centre at the rear  i have now seen ones like the sort that's fitted on my MK3 for sale in after market sites with led bulbs already fitted but are a bit expensive, the pair i purchased for our MK2 came from a breakers and cost £20 for the pair fitting them at the rear at the sides above rear doors i just removed front light and run connections for both rear lights and just pulled down lining at the rear doors to access the cables and hooked the wires with a straightened coat hanger to each side (removed light fuse first) the most tricky part was cutting the head lining to fit the light but finished off ok as had the chrome surround clip supplied with lamps so hid the cut out holes at the edges (used a dremel to cut lining) the beauty of two lights when transporting little man you can use light to see what you are doing seat belt etc  but able to shut one side off and still have light in the rear from the other light

Thanks guys. Time to find the parts and proceed

Last of the fabia's had a rear roof light, my mums 64 plate TSi had one, it's not sunroof dependant........makes a big difference. My vRS is very dark in the back.

I have been tempted to replace the roof lining with one for a rear light fitting, they are available. approx £200..........

So I got time to finish this today. I decided to put in an interior rear roof light from an Audi A3. I just wired it straight from the front roof light with continuous power so the kids can just turn the light on and off when they want to see something. I did not bother wiring to the door signal wires. I like the look of it.

Looks like a smashing job. I am intrigued as to whether this could be fitted to a Mk1. :)

I don't see why not. After finding what wires do what you would need to ensure that you have enough depth between the roof liner and the roof to hold the switch. I was initially worried about this as it works out that there was enough room plus another cm.

A better pic

do you still own this car ?

If so, is that light fixed only to the roof trim, or is it bolted to the roof structure above ?

On my mums TSi, the roof panel is shaped down where the light sits, this picture of yours it seems to be recessed back in

This is fixed to the roof trim only and the roof is flat. The light has some silver clips that grab the panel from behind. The roof has a thin layer of padding on it that helps the light look like it is recessed but it is actually just sitting on top and the curve shape of the light also helps the eye. There is probably shadow there in the pic also.

I've only had it in a day and already feel like it was meant to be there. 👍
