I have a 06 fabia vrs, turns over wont start, cranking is very sluggish tho, came up cam position sensor when plugged in, in the last week i have fitted in tank fuel pump, tandem pump, fuel filter, injectors, cam and crank sensor still having the same problem, before it died it cut out a few times then last time it never started again, timing has been checked aswell and it is spot on

How about the battery? If the battery is dying it can throw up spurious fault codes.

Yep. Mine used to mess with the PAS and the ABS, eventually stopping the use of both when the battery was dying or the earth going between the battery and body was not making good contact.

^ Yes, definitely worth checking the earth lead to strut tower.

Be careful with it though, mine sheared off...

I wish! Turned it ever so slightly and CRACK, came clean off. It was always a tight fit so it was doomed from the start. It's now connected to another earth point down by the PAS fluid tank. :D

Haha, I was about to ask you how you fixed it. Good fix 👍

Thank you. It kept having issues so one of the earth straps is on the strut mount, and one from my late father's long gone D-reg Nova was chucked from the battery to the one down there so it shouldn't have as many problems again. :)

I would suggest that the OP checks that his battery light comes on with the ignition (engine not started) too. If it doesn't it's a sign of the famous broken alternator wires.

When I first got my car, as well as checking the battery to body earth, I gave it an additional earth strap between engine and body just for good measure. You can see it here on the left-hand engine mount....

Just as a side-note to the OP, if you do shear your earthing point off like a certain moron (me), then you'll be able to use a longer strap and mount it elsewhere. If you look carefully then you'll see where else it can go.
