Coding for Retrofit mirrors

Featured Replies

This may have been done before.

So having the vrs, I've sorted most thing but the Wingmirrors which are manual folding, heated ones.

So I've purchased electronic folding, heated, dimming etc.  Also purchased a new switch for the door.

What happens now regarding fitting and coding.  Also I'm assuming the wire loom can just take the new mirror with no changes.

Apologies if this has been done.

Have you got an autoscan and adaption maps for how the car is currently set up?

If you want the dimming to work, I'm pretty sure you'll need to add some wiring. For just folding, I don't believe you'll need any extra.

You might also need new door controllers if you've not already checked if they support folding mirrors...

I don't have any of that currently.  Just the parts for now.

I can't take or leave the dimming.  It's the folding I'd like mostly.   I do have a new door switch if that's what you mean?

Cheers for the quick response!

There is a control module inside each of your front doors, this is where the wing mirror connector attaches to. There are a few different control module variants so depending which is currently fitted, you might need to replace them :)

Until you know which door controllers you have, I wouldn't bother fitting the mirrors as it's easier to replace the control module at the same time if needed.

An autoscan from VCDS or similar will confirm which control modules are fitted, for example my 2018 vRS with folding mirrors has:

Address 42: Door Elect, Driver (J386) Labels:| 5QX-959-X93-42.clb
   Part No SW: 5Q4 959 593 E HW: 5Q4 959 593 B

Address 52: Door Elect, Pass. (J387) Labels:| 5QX-959-X92-52.clb
   Part No SW: 5Q4 959 592 E HW: 5Q4 959 592 B

That is a very useful post!  Good job to her.  So I have a 66 plate Vrs but I will double check the control module.

If let's say I wanted the dimming  what extra wires would be needed.  The Rear view mirror is already dimming.

Not much, two wires from the rear view mirror to each wing mirror via the door loom and door controller.

Example WD (which is probably correct for your car) below which I've added light green squares to help you see the correct wires:

Is this loom ready to buy do you think?  I'm pretty terrible at electrics so may be requiring assistance with that part.

Appreciate the advice btw.

Big help,  thanks.  Would I need 2 of those ? one for each side ?

Il hunt the breaker yards first and if I can't source everything there il outsource!

I think it's a full kit.

The main wire will go between the rear view mirror and both doors. The two smaller wires will go inside the door between the door loom connector and door controller.

I think you get some instructions from Kufatec once you've bought it.

Star, I will let you know how it goes when I eventually get myself sorted.

It works perfectly,  il post a video tomorrow.  I only need to code in the key and get the auto dimming sorted by an auto electrician friend.

I don't know if it's coincidence or I've caused it but the boot button by the gear selector is dead.  Still works of the key and on the boot itself. Could it be a fuse? All the others work.

@Maxyboy93Don't know what format videos you are posting but all I see is a grey box saying there is no video with a supported format and MIME type found, nothing payable

Just had the auto electrician look at the additional wires,  he says there isn't any free spaces for wire and it should just need coding to tell the side ones to do it.  Il let you know

I'm guessing you can fit SEAT or VW modules without any hiccups as long as the part numbers are the same.....

Possibly or possibly not - on the VCDS forum it's sometimes been the case that the door modules need to have the correct parameter file for the car, something that requires online access via ODIS or similar. So worth checking beforehand...
