I am sick of the repeated debates about which is better, a fabia or a mini?

They are 2 very different cars.

Why didn't they compare a mini to a clio which would of been a much better comparison. Who cares if the Fabia is slightly better or worse than a Mini when it's a completely different type of car, it's like comparing an EVO to an ST220, two very different cars (and atleast they both have 4 doors and are a similar size).

I'm not bothered which is quicker anymore (I used to be), just enjoy your car for what it is.

I thoroughly agree. The Mini is completely different. My niece has a Cooper and its bone hard, crappy seats and slow. The only redeeming feature is its strong residuals, build quality and it goes round bends like nothing else !!

Its the fault of Top Gear for making a comparison in the first place

Why did they choose the Mini though? the only reason I can think of is because one is "cool" and one isn't, and it was funny to see the uncool one win?

i thought Tiff Needall driving them around Ty Croes on 5th gear was the first race/comparison , i was going to get a NEW MINI when they came out but just couldn't be bothered , now i'm glad i didn't as every man and his dog has got one , and i've saved a fortune by buying a diesel Skoda Fabia VRS

Plus the mini is very well known due to its popularity and it was a way of getting the badge snobs to realise that the skoda's a good car and happens to give you better value for your cash.

It does crop up from time to time on this site because people want to watch the clips of the car. It's practically the only time that the fabia vrs has been on tv in a motoring show. IMHO I dont think its about people wanting to say their car is better then the mini.
