I did the AC on the Fabia 2016 last Saturday, removed 375 grams and refilled with 450 grams.

So a loss of about 18% with the older R134A gas but after 5.5 years.

 

Did the AC on the Citigo 2018 last Monday.

AC system regassed, this is the newer type R1234YF gas. 272 grams removed and refilled with 330 grams.

This is a loss of about 18% from new in 3.5 years.

Interesting comparison. I'd read that the new stuff leaks more, so that seems to be confirmed by your data.

Methinks I'll remain "old school", as they say, then.

 

Speaking of, I better get mine serviced before the Summer so it isn't merely an orange light in the centre dash area.

And the new Gas is twice the price of the old gas.

 

 

Had one car in that at 2 years old was empty of R1234YF.

The AC machine automatically checks the system for leaks and found none.

If it does find a leak it will NOT refill the system with gas.

I don't think you can put the new gas in old systems or vice versa, but not too sure.

I drove cars for over 50 years with no air-conditioning it did not seem to be a big problem to me. You have guessed it, if my A/C unit packs up I will not replace it.

Newer cars have better air seals than older cars.

This leads to less unassisted air flow through the car.

This can lead to condensation.

 

The same as newer houses with sealed doors, double glazing, no floorboards and no chimneys have a worse condensation problem.

 

Both can be overcome by opening the windows. ( but this lets the heat out. )

 

In the house I live in I installed a PIV system which has stopped the condensation completely.

I would highly recommend this to anyone who has condensation / black mould problems.
