Charge point cover

Featured Replies

Anyone seen or considering a charge point cover now we're heading into the wet and cold weather.

No idea where to get one but seem like a good idea to prevent any possible water ingress or ice forming.

Thoughts?

I think the manufacturer has already thought of that. I have charged in bad weather and not had an issue so far. The Norwegians have the largest uptake of EVs and don't seem to have an issue.

The only thought given is that someone will not plug in at a very open charger while there are blizzard conditions or freezing rain and the charger head will get surrounded with snow or ice while in there.   There are nothing to prevent not 'simply clever' situations.  Or crap charged locations as can be found in Scotland.

The Czech manufacturer failed for decades to 'Winterize' fuel filler flaps of some models.

If you put warm or hot water on the flap to get unfrozen and open or all you can do is pee on it you must be remember to dry it before closing again.

Polish the area, use silicon spray or whatever you usually do as pre winter / pre freezing weather to insure Fuel Flaps open.

You can get the covers from Skoda, no good if you use CCS though.

There was one in the boot of my car when I collected it, I’ve charged the car in rain a few times and not felt the need to install it.

Also, as said above, it doesn’t allow CCS plugs through.

The point of the cover is that a Type 2 charger might be left in for many hours with no driver present and the weather over those hours could result in the build up of snow or ice and while the plug will remove you might need to remove snow / ice to get the flap closed.

45-60 minutes Rapid Charging on CCS might not have the similar thing happening.

Saying that there are plenty around that do park up and plug into CCS and leave them for many many hours.
