couple of questions

1. Front tyres at 6K are starting to wear a little on outside edge (think thats fairly normal?) so whats peoples thoughts on rotating them front to rear - its on its original bridgestones  - never really done this before but a little concerned about the exorbitant replacement tyres cost so looking to maximise wear before replacing

2. Has anyone noticed getting random traffic announcements when not in nav/routing mode - happened a few times now whilst listening to radio - its not normal radio traffic news report, its definitely coming from the inbuilt nav or other infotainment traffic function. Not sure why but its pretty cool!

I have swapped my tyres front to rear on same side for several years as I change to and from winter wheels. I prefer them to wear out together so they are all replaced with the best available tyre at the same time. Do the same with winters now starting 4th winter.

Double check tyre pressures, might be worth getting tracking (alignment) checked as might have hit a big pothole and knocked it out of true.

 

Shouldn’t really be visible uneven wear at only 6k miles, but it would be sensible to swap them front-back, although you might want to wait a bit (but I don’t know how much wear you have)

 

As a general rule, swapping around tyres to even out wear is sensible, but like @kenfowler3966 I just do it when swapping summer-winter

 

 

I've always swapped tyres front to rear every 10,000 miles, in line with the recommendations of Skoda and most tyre manufacturers. (The only website I've seen that doesn't recommend this is KwikFit - but they may have their own reasons for this?) The drawback is that when you do need to change tyres you have to splash out for 4 rather than 2, but on the other hand it lets you choose new tyres on all wheels and not either mix them or be stuck with the manufacturer's choice.

When I change from my current Bridgestone Duelers, I'll be wanting to change to which ever all-season tyre looks best, so will definitely want to change all 4. 

 

I've had a couple of warning from the satnav about traffic delays in front of me as I approach the red line on the map even when it's not actively navigating, which I haven't seen before this car in the UK.

Rotation of tyres seemed to have gone out of fashion, but the Skoda manual recommends rotating front to back and vice versa every 10,000km, not miles. I am concerned that if I left my 225/40 R 19 Turanzas until 10,000 miles the fronts would be too worn to make it worthwhile.

Just got rid of my 18” rims and horrible tyres that came with the car when I got it at the end of September.

Now running 16” rims with 205/60/16 (the rolling circumference is almost exactly the same) Michelin Cross climate II’s.

The difference is huge!

Much quieter and smoother ride, plus the car feels more ‘planted’ on the road.

 

Will be selling the 18’s to recoup some of the outlay....

215/60R16 is the normal size for 16" Karoq tyres.

The congestion announcements are great really useful.

This is my plan. What alloys are you using, Skoda or another make?  Are you using Cross Climate "+" or "2"?  Did you get a good deal?

The CrossClimate 2s are being reported as a vast improvement over the older CC+ tyre. And if you don't go off-road, I'd rate them above the CrossClimate SUV tyre.

Hi I went for these

I prefer grey wheels to the silver variety.

I bought CC 2's (the reviews seem positive) and they do seem to drive very well.

I have had CC+'s on a previous Octavia,

TBH I would never choose another tyre unless something very very good came along.

The CC 2's are not cheap, especially in this size as it is less popular, anyway, my friendly tyre dealer who we have used for years still managed to drop 15% for us.

Yes,  mine is on the original Turanzas at 12.5k miles and whilst the back has probably 6mm on the fronts are on about 4mm..  i've been looking at the Black Friday deals for Turanzas but haven't seen any decent deal yet. I may as well change them now and get the benefit of new tyres through the winter rather than wait till they are down to 2-3mm......

 

I have deliberately not rotated front to back as tyres for my 19" rims seem very expensive and I only want to buy two at a time !   

I am at 14500 miles with 4mm front and 6mm rear on turanzas (gentle driver).

If you only want to swap front to rear tyres once during the tyres lifetime, then you need to decide in what ratio the front and rear tyres would wear out if you didn't swap them front to rear.

 

For example, if you expected your front tyres to wear out twice as quickly as the rears then you would swap after the fronts had worn down by two-thirds of their usually life, and the rears would have only worn down by one-third at that point.

 

So if you had 6mm of usable wear you would change over when the fronts had 4mm of wear and the rears had 2mm of wear. Then all four tyres would wear out at the same time.

 

If you only had 4.5mm of usable tread depth (for example, if you like to fit new tyres well before they get down to the legal minimum of 1.6mm tread depth) and your tyres wear down in the ratio 2:1 (ie. the fronts wear down twice as quickly as the rears), then you would change front to rear when the fronts had 3mm of wear and the rears had 1.5mm of wear. Then the rears (that are now on the front) would wear down by 3mm while the fronts (that are now on the rear) would wear down by 1.5mm. (ie. 3mm + 1.5mm = 1.5mm + 3mm)
