Boler infotainment system fail on VRS

Featured Replies

Hello everybody,

like title says i got issues with my Bolero.

Following happened few days ago: i was driving with my radio on when i heard loud noise (like a rock hitting car) after which my infotainment system died. Car is working fine and i did not see any smoke (thinking it was burned installation or something) or smelled anything burning. When i exited i heard some crackling sound coming from my speakers and that was it. The buttons still have light in them but i do not have any use of infotainment system...it has black screen and no controls working (incl. those on steering wheel).

I've read through some suggestions and did soft reset. Only thing that happened is lights on knobs and buttons turned on and off, signalizing that reset has been done, but everything else remained the same. Also, I've read that i should replace my battery which i did to no avail (my old battery was due to be changed anyhow).

Did anyone had this same issue? Is there any indication on what happened or how to fix it?

I will have my car inspected by Škoda dealership but i wanted to know what to expect.

cheers,

Cultus

Also, i forgot to mention, i did not hit anything or drove over something that would produce that loud noise.

Okay, so it looks like you have a MIB 1 Bolero unit for your 2013 car.  Is that right?

It sounds like the amplifier has gone south....sorry.  It does happen.  The earlier Harmin units were less reliable.

Speak with @pab567 and see what your options are.

Thank you! It is Bolero MIB 1. Is amplifier something that can be replaced without going to dealership?

No - the head unit located in the glove compartment has the integrated amplifier built-in.  The only exception to that rule is if you have a Canton external amplifer.  I suspect that if your built is from factory and its a Bolero, this will be unlikely.

It will require a new head unit and for this new head unit to be coded into the car.  I would recommend upgrading to either a MIB2 unit; it will require VCDS to read the current install and for those values to be put onto the new MIB unit.
