Rear brake disc and pad question

Featured Replies

My rear discs and pads need changing as too rusty and pads waffer thin.  I'm thinking of getting Brembo discs (300mm) as they have the painted hubs in black, so no more rusting hubs apprantly. I know some people say go Pagid, but are the hubs painted on those?  I don't mind going Pagid pads with Brembo discs if it's really worth it, or shall I go to Brembo discs and Brembo pads?

Niggling bit in my brain is I know VAG use Pagid for certain things (normally suspension parts) but if they were to use Pagid then I'll be in the same situation in a few years time with crap brake parts again, having said that there was a revision from 2016 discs and pads so OE is probably better these days, but I very much doubt they have painted hubs either

My first Superb was built in 2016. Rear discs looked horrid after a year or so, so got the Skoda garage to replace them. It was a lease car so no idea if it was charged or warranty, second ones didn't suffer the same issue.

This is the state of mine and how little it actually bites down and pads quite, it’s done around 39k miles.

Hub rust is the worst annoyance as it’s so visual

You said it; there's still a good 10_000 miles on the pads, but with that rust the discs are goosed. Also, from my experience, painted bells won't help after a year or so.

If you look at the pads they don’t look flat in places, it’s odd.

One of my friends installed the brembos and been fine for no rust for a couple of years so if I can get that I’ll be happy.

Rang my local dealer and £156 to install the discs and pads, I thought that was expensive so rang a VAG independent and basically same price, madness.

But the time I buy a battery maintainer and vcds I’ll still be quids in I suppose

If don’t like the rusty hubs look, then try this

https://www.hammerite.co.uk/product/direct-to-rust-metal-paint-smooth-finish/

I actually used that on my wife’s Fiat 500 drums, worked a treat if not a little messy.

I’m going to go with the brembos and if they do go funky eventually then I’ll hammerite them

I would have bet this hammerite product was ok for metal portal and fences, but wouldn't bear high temperature after intensive braking .🤔

Glad to read this...

Have a look at https://www.mtecbrakes.com/ they offer an additional coating to prevent the rusting and the disc quality is very good far better than OEM

So I’ve gone for Brembo discs (08.C501.11 made in Italy) and genuine pads.

The more I read about pads from other manufacturers the more I got put off from various posts here and elsewhere.

I would have gone ATE rear pads but ECP don’t sell them (they sell fronts)  for some reason nor does many other places where I can pick up locally.

My local dealer will be fitting my supplied discs and genuine pads on Thursday as I really needed it done this end of the year.

Whilst they’re fitting them I’m doing a long test drive in an enyaq. Last time I done one of these longer test drives I went home and picked the dog up for a spin in a Karoq which he and I gave a “Nul Points”, so I’m intrigued on his thoughts on the enyaq.

Brembo discs and genuine pads on, now I have good braking all round I’ve noticed the car doesn’t pitch forward and feels so much more stable.

Yesterday when I picked it up I did have some black marking, but I literally drove 3 miles home, which I was somewhat concerned at

So today I went on a longer random jolly, so I put it in eco (DSG) and ACC, seem pretty perfect now, so no idea what the black stuff was

From seeing other brembo discs the coating should last many years instead of rusting up on the hub
