SatNav help

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a skoda octavia 2015. I use the sat nav so infrequently but it's so bad that I end up using google maps on my phone. As an example, I typed in a HA postcode and for the entire length of the journey it showed me a display picture map of Hamburg despite the voice giving me the correct directions. Why is this? Why didn't it revert to a picture map of North London at some stage in the 40 minute journey? Also, I never have updated the software. Are you supposed to do this at some stage? How do you update it?

Thanks,

Matt

What head unit do you have? Amunsden or Columbus?

Sorry. I have no idea.

In your glove box do you have a grey box with a CD player and SD card slot, or two SD card slots,

2015 leads me to think Columbus Mib1?

Defnitely a CD player which I use sometimes. Seems so dated now. Do I need to take a picture to be sure?

Is it really possible to search for destination by postcode? I have a retrofitted MIB2 unit, but once I tried to look up destination by postcode, it didn't work. But, very likely I have done something dumb?

It's not immediately obvious where the postcode field is when you bring up the address fields, I know that but it does seem to work ok aside from giving you  a 'HA'mburg visual picture for a 'HA'rrow north london address!!!

You need to answer paulski's question in full or post a pic

Oh I thought the options were a) cd player with a slot or b) two sd slots . I'll check and revert.

I don't have Columbus in my car I'm afraid but this is probably the best link to find out how to update the maps on one.

I'm not pretending to be any sort of expert, but I don't remember any Amundsen units with a cd player from reading the forum for the last few years and Bolero units don't have satNav function so hence my conclusion it's a Columbus. 😄

Two SD slots!

CD player certainly means Columbus, but I was not aware it had two SD card slots, but I think the earlier versions were HDD for Nav Data and Media, and then they moved to SD for the Nav data and then you can put media on the other SD,

@Mattk53 do you have a Genuine SD card in Slot one, if so then this will be your NAV MAPS card which you should be able to follow the link above to update.

Thanks guys. So I need to buy a SD card from somewhere? Paulski, the slot on the left does look different right in my photo?

I wish I had a CD player.

Anyway Matt, find RUSTYNUTS on this site, he'll sort you.

It looks exactly like my Amunsden unit and it looks like there is an SD card already in the  SD1 slot. See what type of card it is. If your sat nav works then there is no need to buy another card which has to be a genuine Skoda sat nav card.

I was just thinking the same - mine was an MIB1 Amundsen in a 2015 vRS.  Haven't had the vRS for nigh on three years now, otherwise I'd go and take a pic.

Edit:  Well I'm blowed - found a pic of mine from 2015;

Bring up last destination, click city, click bottom left corner, to bring up post code, then click again, to bring up letters, then again to bring up numbers, then back to letters.....it's a right pain.

@Mattk53

With the infotainment off, Just push the SD card in a bit and let go and  it will pop out the slot.  if it's got a label with Skoda on it then that's the map data.

Standing corrected by others above, if it's an Amundsen then maps can again be updated via a Windows computer easy enough.

You can only put new Map data downloads  on the genuine Skoda SDCard, you can't just use any old SD card.

OP has a 2015 Octavia so whether he has a MIB1 or a MIB2 (the changeover happened during 2015) will determine the newest maps available.

VAG have a policy of not offering map updates for more than 5 years after the end of production, so the last maps available for a MIB1 Amundsen are 2020-2021.

2021-2022 maps are available for a MIB2 Amundsen though.

I don't know why they made the postcode entry so difficult to find - I'm running on a modern Columbus and it took me a while to find it.

Saying that......I find the manual "free form" entry of addresses does, in most cases, just work. I've been very surprised when I've just started typing in a street address and it has found it without issue.

OP needs to post a pic of the p/no and software version then someone call tell him if it's MIB1 or MIB2

@Mattk53

To find part no so we can find out if you have Mib 1 or mib 2:

Press "menu" button.

Press "setup" by scrolling left and right through the screen menus.

Scroll down the setup list to "System Information"

And get to my last picture.

Hey! Sorry for the delay. So I pushed the left one and a Skoda SD card popped out 🙂

Guys, what do I do now? A snip from Paulski above. Do I copy the skoda portal file here onto the SD card? Overwriting any file already on the SD card? I checked the back of my p.c. and there is a SD slot thankfully
