The interior light doesn't come on when I open the car door. I comes on when I manually hit the switch. Octavia VRs TDI 2015. any ideas?

Switch is in "off" position rather than "on when doors open"?

Thank you Ken for your reply....however, there isn't a "on when doors open", there's a rocker switch with O on one side and a 'light' symbol on the other side. If I depress the 'light' symbol the light stays on all the time and nothing at all happens on the other two settings.

when you say the other two settings, do you mean in the middle so not to the left or the right. Mine is in the middle and not rockered to the left or right to work the doors.

Yes, tried that position too, same result....darkness 😞

Is the problem with all doors? Does the rear roof light come on? Do they come on when unlocking?

Addition.

Neither the front or back lights come on for any door that opens

And the middle position is "on when doors open". If that is staying off, there's something wrong with either that 3 position switch or all of the door switches. And you now need an auto electrician with access to the car.

Do you get the doors  open warning on the MFD?  If you do, it would suggest the door switches are ok. 

Yes the door open switch works fine. Thank you for your help. I'll take it to my VW specialist mechanic 🙂
