Door handle stiff

Featured Replies

So after 4 or so years I have my first problem with my superb.

The drivers door is quite stiff to open, I’ve sprayed it to see if it helps but I doubt it.

Any ideas?

BTW I don’t normally open my doors like that, just showing the difference between 1 finger opening on rear compared to the fronts 😀

Forgot to mention when the door is open the handle isn’t stiff and opening from the inside is fine when the door is closed.

My old car (Passat b5.5) had an issue like this but there was a cable with a plastic end and you could move that forward a few notches to make it tight again.

Does the Superb have this hidden somewhere rather than visible on the Passat?

Sounds like the door has dropped on the hinges slightly causing it to be a bit tight. Loosen the latch bracket and adjust very slightly

Possibly but surely it would be hard to open from the inside as well, hmm

Yesterday I did spray a little plus gas by the handle bit, didn’t seem to do much.

but today…

So I guess it needed some time to think about it and now behaving :)

I have the same on my 2016 mk3, same side, just mine is a LHD so its the passanger door.. Did try to adjust at a local service, they lifted it a touch, it was worse, they lowered it to where it was, and told me handle needs to be removed to see the exact issue.. That was 3 months ago, still the same.. People sometimes think its locked, as its that hard to open sometimes.. It does not depend on weather, or teperature..

For my car it was lack of lubrication and back to normal for now.

I did only use plusgas though so not expecting it to long, unless it dislodged a bit of grit/dirt

Since im not from the UK, can you just explain plusgas? something like wd40 or silicone based? thnx!

Plusgas is a penetrating oil, used to help loosen seized components e.g. nuts and bolts.

For the issue above WD40 or GT85 will probably work just as well. Depends which one you prefer the smell of.

Very similar, I’ve been doing more searching and Wurth HSS-2000 looks to be the ideal product to use for relubing, not exactly cheap mind you.

I’ll be purchasing that as it sprays like a liquid then turns into a grease, so it’ll penetrate in nicely, I’ll spray the door latch  lock itself as well

looks to be the same issue as mentioned in the thread below?

It’s been fine since the plus gas to be honest. As lubricating it sorted it if it does it again I’ll get the Wurth product
