et 49 205/55 r16 will these fit on a skoda mk3

Featured Replies

Hello i was looking for a new set of winter tyres and i found a good deal a set of rims with winter tyres on them but i'm not sure if they will fit the seller claims it will but  my research tells me the opposite does anyone know if they will fit ? And ofcourse when i say will they fit i mean will they be optimal and fuel efficient  my current rims are 18 inch pegasus and my car is a superb 2015 mk3 190 hp i don't care that much about the looks so 16 inch is fine the set he's selling is 49 205/55 r16.  Thanks in advance.

They look like Octavia MK3 rims called MINORIS with a specification of 6.5x16 ET46

Kolo z lehké slitiny MINORIS 16" pro OCTAVIA III

https://eshop.skoda-auto.cz/cs_CZ/kolo-z-lehke-slitiny-minoris-16-pro-octavia-iii/p/5E0071494++8Z8

The standard 16" Superb MK3 rims are 6.5Jx16 ET41, so fitting the ET46 rims will move them further into the wheel arch by 5mm. This shouldn't be a problem. The Superb MK2 for example, had two offset for its 16" rims, ET45 and ET50. The ET50 was used for winter tyres, so you would be doing the same thing by also going in 5mm for your winter tyres.

The problem comes with the 205/55R16 tyre size. This has about a 5% smaller outside diameter than the standard 215/60R16 Superb MK3 tyre size.

5% is a big difference. 1.5% to 2% is often considered the most you should change the outside diameter of a tyre by. Going 5% smaller will mean that you speedo will over-read by about 10%. So when your speedo is indication 70mph you will only be doing about 63mph. Or when your speedo is indicating 50mph you will only be doing about 45mph. Or when your speedo is indicating 30mph you will only be doing about 27mph.

Changing to 205/55R16 will also lower your car by about 15mm, so about the same ride height as a 15mm lowered sports suspension car.

Your odometer will also over-read by 5%. So if you go for a 20,000 mile service, you will only have done about 19,000 miles. This will increase your servicing costs.

The rims are fine, but change the tyres to 215/60R16 or you could take a look at slightly oversize tyres such as 215/65R16 which are sometimes cheaper. 215/65R16 would give you about an extra 10mm of ground clearance compared to 215/60R16...which could be useful in deep snow.

205/55R16 are much cheaper than 215/60R16, but the Superb MK3 doesn't use cheap tyre sizes...unlike the Octavia MK3.

When you are buying OEM rims, always ask the seller what the OEM part number is before purchase, so that you know exactly what you are buying.

and what do you guys think about the red plastic in the rims i asked the seller what those are and he told me that he had to put these in to fit it on his golf 6. I'm sure i can take the plastic off because it already looks damaged as you can see on the picture. looked like a bargain for 400 euros they are in very good shape but i don't think the will fit since they are et47

What's so bad about et47? Standard is et44 I think so only 3mm change.

Most important thing is that red ring (spigot ring) used to reduce the centre bore size. Take it out and it might be the right fitment. Find out what car they are from and what size that car needs and match up to what you need.

As for the 16 wheels: they should fit fine. Just need the correct size tyres.

The below rims come from the Audi A4/A6. At about 7.3kg they are very lightweight.

I'm driving to Denmark in a few days so I'm kinda in a hurry to get a set of rims and put winter tyre's on them so ordering from Germany is no option.

wouldn't these look awful on a 2015 superb 😆

Etc is the offset and dictates how far the wheel sits into the arch. You need to know the wheel width too. Usually the wheel will have marking like "8j18et47" which states the rim is 8 inches wide, 18 inches diameter and 47mm inset from the face of the bolt surface.

Then you need tyres to match. 235/45r18 is a standard size for superb.

thanks for the lesson, which one would you prefer the seat rims are new not used cost 600 euros but people say that 19 inch rims cause discomfort the used vw cc rims cost 400 euros.

For winter wheels I'd go for the CCs.

Or the first ones you asked about with proper size tyres.

First i need to be sure that those cc rims will as you mentioned maybe it will fit when i take of the plastic things, yes the first ones Indeed the size that  @Carlston suggested but there is a price problem because those come with the winter tyres on them which are a bad size so it would be a waste of money to buy them it's better that someone with a octavia buys them.

so i found more information and the cc rims are compatible it has the same center diameter so i will grab them someone from my city sells them so that's easy

The tyres will need changing from 235/40R18 to 235/45R18.

Outside diameter

235/40R18 645.2mm

235/45R18 668.7mm

Therefore, 235/40R18 has an outside diameter about 3.5% smaller than the standard 235/45R18 Superb MK3 tyre size.

I'm buying the rims without tyre's that i shared previously i just shared the screenshots for the information on them about the rims I'll put 235/45R18 tyre's on them if I'm not mistaken I've read on the forum that some put 235/50 tyres on 18 inch rims what do you think about that

Outside diameter

235/50R18 692.2mm

245/45R18 677.7mm

235/45R18 668.7mm

Percentage increase

235/45R18 to 245/45R18 1.3%

235/45R18 to 235/50R18 3.5%

Rims widths

235/45R18  7.5-8.0-9.0

https://www.toyo.co.uk/tirefinder/index/width/235/aspect/45/rim/18

235/50R18  6.5-7.5-8.5

https://www.toyo.co.uk/tirefinder/index/width/235/aspect/50/rim/18

245/45R18  7.5-8.0-9.0

https://www.toyo.co.uk/tirefinder/index/width/245/aspect/45/rim/18

As you can see above, the optimal rim width for 235/45R18 and 245/45R18 is 8.0 and for 235/50R18 is 7.5

As you have 8.0 rims, 235/45R18 or 245/45R18 might be better.

Taking into account the big percentage increase of 3.5% by going from 235/45R18 to 235/50R18, 245/45R18 is looking better.

However, take a look at the available tyres in all three sizes to help you make a final decision.

i bought the rims i will look for 235/45R18 or 245/45R18 tyres but that can change based on the availability as you mentioned. There are rumors that there is a shortage in winter tyres.   I tried one of the rims on my care without taking the plastic off and they fit with the plastic eventho they have the same diameter so does the plastic matter or not.

just placed the rims with dunlop winter sport 5 235 45 r18 98v extra load Tyres everything seems okay a bit more noise and it's around 10 degrees celsius outside so they feel soft but other than that felt no difference the dcc feels better with softer tyres but of course it's no good for grip around corners

The noise is one of the problems with wide, low profile tyres such as 235/45R18.

Michelin Alpin 6 in size 225/60R16 would have been so much quieter and more comfortable. Although you do need at least 17" rims to clear the front brake calipers if you have those big 340mm diameter front brake discs. All the 272HP/280HP Superb MK3 models do have such big front discs, so not an option for those cars.

my superb is 190 hp but i think the break discs are still too big for 16 inch that would've been much better indeed. I looked at the tests of the Tyres before getting them and these size of them had one of the worst ratings. The color of the rims don't match with the cars color it looks awful the rims are too shiny might plasti dip the rims black, if i have the time because i don't care so much about the appearance. Ordered some logo stickers from amazond.de for the wheel caps.
