DSG …Confused?

Featured Replies

Hi All

I have recently bought 2018 Octavia 1.6 TDI with a 7 speed DSG

Can someone tell me does this transmission require oil changes or is ‘Sealed for Life’

Im getting different answers , my local dealer says yes at 4 years,  I see others say no

Many thanks for info

There is no Service Schedule or guidelines for Oil changes so no need to have that done.

Ask the plonker at the Dealership where they see a DQ200 7 speed twin dry clutch needing a 40,000 mile oil change.

Tell them to go ask an actual Master Tech.

There are 2 oils in there in the box and in the MCU that do not need changing.

The Term Sealed for life is one used which is not so.  There is a drain plug and a filler hole.

It is not sealed for like because in 2012 there was a World Wide Recall and a Service Campaign in Europe to change oil from Synthetic to mineral and some people speak of changing the oil and do it.

This is confusing too many including Full Time Service Desk Staff at dealerships that need training.

As Rootoot says you will get different answers from different sources. My own personal thoughts are it doesn't hurt to change fluids. Just make sure they use the correct spec and grade of oil if you do.

My thoughts are too many DQ200 DSG's are hurt by people messing about not knowing what they are doing.

Instead of spending money having unnecessary oil changes of a DQ200 just spend the money on an extended warranty that will cover a DSG serviced to the manufacturers recommendations / guidelines from after the manufacturers warranty expires to maybe 100,000 miles is covered and after that consider changing the oil.

Our 2015 Polo GTI has the same DQ200.  We've had it four and a bit years and have no plans to change the oil.  When we bought it, from Skoda, they were unable to tell me which DSG, or how many gears it had!

The DQ250 wet clutch DSG in my Golf GTI on the other hand will be serviced every 40,000 miles - maybe this is where your local dealer is confused?  It must be hard for them, poor things 🙄

Thanks all for the info

Merry Xmas to all

I hope you don't mind me jumping in with a question.

So the subject of servicing is always a confusing one for me only because of the strange situation I find myself in... and many others at the moment given how little mileage we may have done.

Next year my car is 4 years old,  but I've yet to break 20000 miles.  Which of the items should I be selecting?  So if I look at that schedule do I simply blindly do everything just because it's 4 years old and ignore the fact it's barely at 20K miles?    I mean I have a £725 bill coming up and since I bought it used at 16K miles it's had 2 oil services and the brake fluid change....It's costing me almost more in servicing than it is in fuel 🤣

Best not use a main dealership if there is a good independent.

The DSG is at 40,000 miles in your case.

No idea about your front diff. as in what you have & need to service,

If you do not want to change the spark plugs then do not.

Look at the Air Filter and maybe shake it, vacuum it or blow with an air line and do not change it.

Same with the pollen filter maybe, that depends on the state of it. Clean the area where it is.

Next year have the brake fluid tested for the H2o content.

As an add in, when mine was serviced recently, (3 years but 13000 miles), I was told it was due gearbox oil change. Of all the work done, including recharge  of aircon and brake fluid change, no mention of gearbox oil on bill. So many cars and so many different servicing schedules, probably easy for “front of house” to get wrong. As long as the technician gets it right!

Getting the @ 3 years and only 13,000 miles and saying an oil change was a big error on anyone at a service desk.

It is not that confusing really that the Skoda petrol or diesel DSG cars from 2009 with 150 ps max and 250 Nm or less and FWD are all DQ200 7 speed twin dry clutch DSG's.

(Citigo were ASG's so different!)
