Poor tunes

Featured Replies

Have just fitted a new head unit with Amp and sub to my Octy:D . When turned up, all the speakers rasp, Taking the covers off, I see that the previous owner took out all the original speakers, and when sold the car on, just threw the old ones back in, just twisting the wires together. Its going to be hard to keep the originals, as the wires were cut really close the the plug

Is this going to be the only reason that they are sounding crap?

Are there any speakers/sets that anyone would recommend for the smaller budget dependants?

Have a look at the pioneer range they do some good speakers.

Also a very similar topic was covered on this thread:

I'd suggest ditching the originals if the wires have been cut that close. Additionally if you have a nice new H/Unit and Amp you may as well run decent cable and put in good speakers to get maximum benifit.

However if you want to use the original cables/wire you can get them back together.

If you have half an inch, solder and decent insulating tape should work, but if you have an inch or so then use heat shrinking, sealing, butt connectors.

Depending on how the original owner refitted the door cards and speakers you may well find that it could be this causing the buzzing.

For this I always found some stragegically placed lumps of blue tack or similar help you find the resonance so you can take corrective steps :)

Thanks, will give it a go. Fitting new cables sounds good, but looks like way too much hard work

The reason the previous owner had done that was because the factory fit speakers are appalling so he'd been using something better.

I wouldn't bother with trying to fix the wiring to the old ones , just bin them and fit replacements

The old ones are not that bad, just need a small hole made in the rears seals and a decent head unit.

I agree aftermarket are better but if you want bad try 1989 Ford fiesta (awful) or my old citroen BX (no stereo fitted, 'to allow the owner to choose').

EDIT: Fitting new cables is supprisingly easy if you don't mind lifting the carpets up. You can use the old cables from the speakers to the stweaters and just run decent cables from the H/Unit to the mid/bas cone.
