Rear wiper died

Featured Replies

Hello all,

heading down the m6 last night and noticed my rear wiper had stopped. Pushed the stalk and the jet works but the wiper isn’t wiping. No motor noise etc when engaged.

Haven’t checked anything yet, but thought it’d be wise to gather ideas of what to check, likely culprits etc. will start by checking the fuse.

Any other suggestions much appreciated 😁

I'm waiting to see an auto electrician, if I put the rear wiper to 'on position' it now just makes the number plate light 'flicker' on one side, so the wires must be worn & touching..

That’s interesting. I recently had some “possessed” number plate light behaviour (long story but obviously something not right but currently seems to have sorted itself). Doing some bits in a couple of weeks so will have to take a look I guess! Just nipped to the shop this morning and I must’ve left the stalk in the on position - rear wiper squeaked into life when the car started, so looks like a funny gremlin for sure.

Sounds like the wiring loom through the tailgate to the bodywork might have become frayed or something.

Check the easy parts first.

Fuse 40 for the rear wiper.

To get to the wiper is probably as quick as going into rubber boot holding wires to the tailgate.

The tailgate trim is held with plastic pop rivets which come off easily. Then just put 12V onto the motor and check if it is working.

Plastic pop rivets?

Had a check over and can't see anything obvious - been working fine since. Will keep an eye!

Took mine to garage today to show garage not working and it sprung back to life after being dead for a month! Needless to say it's booked in next Friday..
