Battery AH capacity

Featured Replies

At last service, I was advised that my car battery needs reconditioning, and I need to just put it on charge occasionally. This is mainly due to frequent short trips, and battery not getting a good charge. So, to get a charger suitable for stop/start battery, I also need to know AH capacity of battery, so as to buy the right output version. Short of taking battery out, as all info on side, anyone able to guide me, please.

Hi C, welcome to the forum.

An 8 or 10 amp smart charger will do the job - Amp hour rating of battery not particularly important in selecting a suitable charger, but do get one with the correct charging mode for your type of battery. You should have EFB or AGM battery fitted to your Octavia - all relevant information will be marked on top or side of battery.  Important - always use the tag on the engine bulkhead for the negative charger connection.

I use a Ring RSC 608 (8 amp) on my Octavia, which gets me from around 50-60% to 90-100% charged in 12 hours.

Thanks for that. Halfords were no use, and none in the store, anyway! Should be able to get a suitable one from Argos, tomorrow.

Take a look at Amazon or another online supplier to get a price comparison, also useful for user reviews. There are also several references on this forum for suitable chargers.

The battery choice at factory for all MQB platform cars :-

For cars WITH "Start/Stop” eco engine shut off (BlueMotion II):-
59Ah/320A (DIN), H5 size, EFB type
69Ah/360A (DIN), H6 size, EFB type
68Ah/380A (DIN), H6 size, AGM type

If its got an AGM battery fitted it needs a charger that has a setting for AGM....

Loads of info in first post here:-
