Adaptive Lane Guidance Adaptation?

Featured Replies

Besides Lane Assist; anyone managed to get Adaptive Lane Guidance to work or adapted?

All RS models here have it, including mine.

It is activated by a button on the top-right of the steering wheel.

I found it seemed to wander around in the lane and was disconcerting.

I have never used it since.

Not every RS has it. Mine doesn't and the button is also missing.

Adaptive lane guidance can be coded but with annoying "hands on the wheel" warning. Check for more here: https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/500326-travel-assist-retrofit/

I am in Australia. My car has it and the Australian brochure that was current at the time, May 2021, says it is fitted to all RS's.

I realize that it is optional, or possibly not available, in other countries.

And I would add to my observation above that "it wanders about in the lane" to say that I cannot bring myself to trust it not to make a mistake and steer me out of the lane. Or to take into account traffic, including large trucks, in adjacent lanes, that might encroach on my lane. I will never use it.

I cannot see why this technology exists. Staying in lane is something that any experienced driver has mastered and takes no effort. I am thankful it is not enabled by default. It is bad enough that the Lane Assist with its steering wheel vibrations is enabled by default and needs to be disabled with two presses of steering wheel buttons each time it becomes annoying.

On the other hand Adaptive Cruise Control has been an incredible help. In the past with regular cruise control I was constantly monitoring the separation to the car in front and adjusting the speed setting to ensure I would not get too close to, or run into, the car in front. And, just as frequently, using the brakes to achieve that goal, or to avoid exceeding the speed limit on downhill sections of road. Now all of that is no longer necessary.

And just as useful is the Heads-up display. I basically can now ignore the incredibly busy virtual cockpit and concentrate on the essentials without taking my eyes off the road.
