Infotainment not working

Featured Replies

Hi All

My wife drives a Fabia Mk3 2017 which she brought from new. Just before Christmas, the head unit developed a fault where it would switch on, load the splash screen and then reboot and stick in this cycle. We have taken it back to the garage we purchased it from and they charged us to take a look to see what was going on and they informed us that they don't know why it's not working but suspect that a module is not talking to the screen. They disconnected the battery for a short period to see if this would resolve the issue, but it hasn't. They also said that for some reason we have the wrong stereo as it says VRS on the splash screen.

They have told us they need to do a further investigation at a cost but it is looking at around £1200 to replace the module which is outrageous. I have searched on google and done things like switching it on holding buttons, I've even disconnected the battery for 2x days (now it just switches on, splash screen, and then shuts off). I've noticed a topic on here about a software update, however, the garage said it doesn't need one.

The car is now out of warranty, but in my eyes, as this is electrical it should be covered by the 6-year warranty. So my question is to you all, has anyone had this issue before, and can anyone suggest anything we can do to avoid the cost of repair. I mean, buying a BT speaker is a far cheaper option lol

Thanks in advanced

Splash screen is just a question of coding. Pls post VIN on PM so I can see what is the unit and let you know available options.

Thanks for sending VIN over PM. Your unit is Bolero MIB2 with DAB/DAB+ receiver and RVC support, model number 5Q0035842B:

The problem you described is typically caused by EMMC failure but it can also be flash or iMX6 processor problem. Flash and EMMC error can be fixed by replacing flash or EMMC chip respectively (in case of EMMC it als requires patching the unit). If the problem is caused by iMX6 then unfortunately you can just throw it away.

I can try to repair it if you deliver it to me (Poland).

Hello I have a similar problem with my Skoda Fabia 2018.... except my infotainment screen is completely blank. Both I and my local garage have checked fuses etc and reset, but all to no avail. Apparently the power is just not getting through and my garage guy thinks the fault may be with the radio?

I have contacted the main dealer twice and they have been worse than useless..... any ideas please?? And is the statement above about 6-yr warranty on electricals true? No-one seems to know!!

Based on VIN you have Bolero glove box unit 5Q0035842C and display unit 6V0919604B. I doubt this is power issue - see my post above.

Thank you so much for this .... so do you think it's a whole new unit job then?

Thank you so much for this info ...... much appreciated! I've had a look at the post you mention ...... so are you saying it really could be a chuck the unit away and start again issue? Or is it possible to obtain 2nd hand one or even just the component parts you mention?

PS...... I think the original poster had the basic display on his screen (and nothing else) ..... whereas mine is totally blank; it literally worked perfectly one day and not at all the next!!

You can send the faulty unit to me to Poland - if I don't manage to have it repaired (of if it's BER - Beyound Economical Repair) then I can supply replacemnt unit.

OK many thanks I will certainly bear this in mind ... very much appreciated!

Hello.

I came across a similar problem with 2014 Octavia Columbus (MIB1) system, it suddenly stopped functioning. The display switches on and displays the splash screen with Skoda logo, then reboots a couple of times before finally going blank. The dealership is absolutely useless when it comes to troubleshooting, they are proposing to perform a SW reload to system "to see if it helps". Problem is they would charge almost 200 EUR for the reload - regardless if it succeeds or not 😐. After reading this thread the issue seems to be more hardware related, so I wouldn't like to spend my money on useless SW reload. Do you think the SW reload actually could solve the issue, or would I be better off spending the money on a replacement (2nd hand) module - or getting the current one repaired? I gathered that there's no easy way to test whether the unit is repairable or not without opening it up and performing a close examination?

@VAGster_FIN Wouldn't hurt to try the SW flash, however you could do it yourself most likely if supplied firmware.

@pab567 should be able to assist.

@VAGster_FIN can you pull your glove box unit away to see the model number from the upper case label? Assuming it is Columbus it shoul dbe something like 5E0 035 0xx y where xx - two digits, y - letter. If not possible then pls share your VIN with me on PM.

Basically it's not a piece of cake to reflash Columbus MIB1 in such state, honestly speaking I really doubt if Skoda delaer is able to do it. being in your shooes I would consider 3 options:

1. trying to have your unit repaired

2. replace your unit with another, second hand unit, same type

3. replace your unit with MIB2 - either Bolero, Amundsen or Columbus - which gives you new features (Android Auto, Apple carPlay, Performance Monitor).

Thanks @pab567, very good advice as always

@pab567 thanks for your insight. I don't trust the local dealer's abilities to solve the issue.

Here's a pic of the unit:

@VAGster_FIN your tag wasn't formed correct, but he will get signal now.

@VAGster_FIN Indeed, this is Columbus MIB1 unit with DAB. You can send it to me for repair - if I don't manage to have it repaired then I send it back to you and can add either Amundsen or Columbus MIB2.

@pab567 OK, I appreciate your help. How much do you charge for troubleshooting / unit repair? We can continue over PM if you like.

If I cannot have it repaired and you just want it back then you pay just for shipping. More info on PM.

Hi. New here so apologies if this us in the wrong area etc.

I have a 2013 Octavia. The screen turns on and off and reacts to the touchscreen etc and all is good except there is no sound and then it can just cut in and work right up until I turn the car off. Usually when re starting no sound again except twice it has come on when the car starts. No pattern. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Hi @pab567

I have a skoda fabia 2015 mk3 with a bolero radio system. The touch screen stopped working but anything else appears to work. Can I just replace the touch screen? Is any code required if I just replace the touch screen? Do you supply it?

Thanks

Yes, you can, no coding required, I don't have digitizers, I suggest you get complete display unit
