If water gets to the cabin filter, I'll make the footwell wet

i knew i was missing (at least) one off my probable sources list.

Well, it's wet again. But then again the drivers side scuttle panel bought from the scappie did have a bad seal, due to having oil dripped on it from the car above.

I thought this would be sorted, but the seal I put on top also pealed away.

Going to take it all off, put more silicone sealant around the bottom of the window, put my original right hand scuttle back on and patch over the wiper holes with rubber seal.

🙄

I really don’t think it’s the scuttle panel. Time to lift the carpet I think if you get time. You’ll only need to left half of it, but give yourself a few hours to remove trims and seats.

The floor could be so wet that the underlay is absolutely soaking..

Example of mine:

Great thread.

It has been completely soaked in the past, but each time I have some dampness in there it's just on the surface.

I'll see how I get on this weekend, but I'm tied up with other stuff.

A few hours to remove the seats etc...... It's been continually raining, I haven't had a chance yet.

Might come to that though.

Good writeup! I neglected to notice there was a grommet all the way down there 😂

I cleaned the green off the sunroof and blew out the drains with an airline and that seems to have sorted the sunroof. I cleaned out the passenger side footwell of muck and have affixed the left hand scuttle panel down with some transparent gorilla tape for the time being 😂 and that seems to have stopped it from getting any damper. I also JB Welded the crack in the scuttle panel fixing plastic thing to secure it so hopefully that's one thing down.

Mine appears damp on the surface but it's been steadily getting less so over the last few days I think. I had a buddy wetvac it alongside the rest of the interior because the mould-mobile was a rolling penicillin factory. I know the underlay will hold a lot of water, so maybe it's just wicking to the top?

I bought a ten pack of those bathroom dehumidifiers and have been leaving 2-3 in the car so the moisture has somewhere to go if/when it decides to evaporate 😂

I know they hold a lot of water, from when the passenger side decided to become wetter than an otters pocket.

I've been using a folded towel with two bricks on top to pull water out of the carpet. Looking at it, it seems to be quite dry (towel was damp, not soaked through).

I would be out there at the mo, but it's raining with a chance of tree branches.

I also have a small dehumidifier (solid-state one), but being so cold it really needs some heat to get the moisture moving.

Soaker Octavia 💦

I left my windows open trying to air out the interior whilst it was blowing a gale, and was soon informed it had begun to hail so 🤦‍♂️

Yeah I bought a 240v heater fan thing to leave in there when it was really damp. Thank Jeff for Amazon 😆 I'd considered investing in an electric dehumidifier but the price tag scares me.

Might have to have a look at that grommit beside the cabin filter I think and see how secure it is just in case.

Well, another update to the Soaker Octavia

It was still getting wet in the drivers footwell... I tried many things again and I've finally sorted it.

It was only getting damp in the middle of the well and I assumed it was tracking via the insulation underneath, or coming from above.

After looking underneath the car I found two large grommets missing. I ordered some and have fitted them using silicone sealant (they are the right size, correct P/N, but don't seem to have a suitable lip). I have made some small bars with studding and wing-nuts in case they come loose.

It's now dry!
