Speedo swap PROBLEM ???

Featured Replies

I drive 2013 1.6 faia, base model,I have wanted cruise control for quite a while.

So I bought a 2011 fabia elegance to poach the stalks. Upon getting the car I also have decided to swap speedo's as prefer the idea of having a proper temperature gauge  and took the armrest.

Today I fitted ALL of the above.

However, neither will start both saying immobilised.

What could be the problem?

Also what do I require to conclude the Cruise Control retrofit ??

Yes, the immobiliser is built into the "pod".

Recoding is needed to enable the CC as long as the correct wiring exists, in other words probably a small bit of rewiring then re-coding is needed, there will be "how to do it" threads are on some VW Group forums.

How would I overcome the immobiliser that is in the pod ??

You need to refit the original speedo, read the PIN code with VagTacho or VagCommander,  refit the new speedo and do the same, then with VCDS you can swap the old PIN into the replacement speedo  and that will then work

I do have vagcom, never really used it except for identifying & clearing faults.

Is it straightforward?

Or is it difficult to navigate through the system ?

Where would I find the said PIN ??

WIll VCDS not read the PIN from original Speedo ?

Bit of heavy reading, unsure which immobiliser you will have. VCDS will not read the instrument console code - I used VAG Pin on my 2008 Mk2 TDI Greenline. Also there may be a requirement to match the keys to the new cluster. Someone may be along soon to clarify actions required - I have yet to swap my cluster, on which the fuel and outside temp gauge do not work so cannot advise actions required.

Additional data

VCDS can not read the PIN codes you need either of the programs I mentioned then when you have the PIN you use VCDS to swap the PIN code into the replacement unit, there are two youtubes about it on the Ross-Tech wiki site

Something VCDS will not do, does surprise me !!!..........I wonder if it was intentional to leave the function out.

EDIT I see even the dealers dont / cant see it.

I replaced both speed's back into the corresponding cars. Both now start.

I have ordered the vag commander to try upon its arrival.

But my main car is showing an ABS LIGHT along with codes 0887 & 0883, I seem unable to delete the codes with ross tech.

Unsure how to proceed.

The control module is not coded, thats what it's telling you.

I would also ensure it's enable in gateway installation list.

Not sure what coding options would be within that module
