High Beam Assist controller faulty

Featured Replies

Hi

My HBA has suddenly packed up. I get a fault on the dash saying it is not working, but a scan says its a controller fault and won't clear. I've turned it off in the settings which clears the dashboard message, but doesn't clear the OBD Eleven fault.

Is it actually the controller as it says, or is it the sensor in the mirror or are they one and the same?

To be honest, I hated it and never used it. I will get it fixed if I can get it done under warranty, but if I can't, can it be coded out so that the controller doesn't show up on a scan and therefore the error doesn't? Otherwise, every time I (or a garage) does a scan, it'll show the error.

Thanks in advance

Nick

The controller is in the mirror afaik. Not sure about coding out.

to be fair, if you've the option on the infotainment system, I'd just disable it.

It's fine if you're on single track unlit B roads, but I found it absolutely pants on unlit sections of motorway. Didn't ever seem able to detect oncoming traffic

I've disabled it. But it gives me an error everytime I scan with OBD Eleven and I want to remove that. Only because its an annoyance. But also if I sold the car, it would show a fault, whereas if I disabled it, it wouldn't.

you could possibly do the reverse of enabling it on OBD eleven and turn it off that way.

Yeah, good call. I could try that. Thanks...

I've had the same fault for ages now. I think the controller inside the rear-mirror is broken. Replacement part for the whole mirror assembly is silly money.

Did not know there is a switch in the infotainment system, I shall turn it off. Thank you.

(I no longer spend much time in this car since WFH)

I don't think there is an option in infotainment under lighting. Not for main beam assist. Only dynamic light assist (If fitted). Not in the golf mk7 anyway. So would need to try to deactivate through coding. Mines broken in my mk7 R too. Checksum error....

Hi, there is a tick box in the infotainment under lighting as I have deselected it and the dashboard error message has gone away, leaving me with just the OBD Eleven message when I scan it.

You might want to take a look at this post:

Seems like at least some are failing due to a 0 ohm resistor overheating and burning out. If so, replacing the resistor or even just using a jump wire might fix it for you :)

Yes, thanks. I'd seen that thread heaps of time. Never got to the end with the pcb fix!  May pull mine apart. on the mk7 in the infotainment under lighting there is no option for main beam assist delection. Only if car fitted with DLA.  Octavia must be set up slightly differently. So if I leave my lights on auto, the first time you push the lights for full beam, you get light assist faulty on the dash and a ping.....
