Fabia MK3 whining sound

Featured Replies

Hi all!

I've just finished replacing a front headlight bulb on my wife's Fabia, (there are no words), and I turned on the car to check it. Anyway after a minute or so it started making this annoying whiney noise. Does anyone know what it might be? I'm not overly worried, but would like to know if anyone's heard it before?

Thanks!

Have you looked / listened under the bonnet?

I have looked and listened yes, but my powers of deduction on anything under the bonnet are, well, lacking. I just wondered if anyone had heard that noise before! :)

Does the pitch change with engine revs?

No actually, the pitch remains the same.

Do you hear the noise with just the ignition on or only when the engine is running?

Have you tried turning the AC and or heater fan on / off to see if it changes?

When you open the bonnet where is the noise coming from?

Use a funnel to help with direction.

I use the centre core from a kitchen towel roll placed over one ear to help.

Just keep moving your head to change the direction of the sound, aiming for the loudest point.

Turn off the air conditioning, pretty certain that's the noise it makes.
