RHD car headlamps in Europe

Featured Replies

Hi

I want to drive through France to Switzerland. In the past ive stuck those AA beam deflectors on the headlamps. Can you adjust the beams for LHD now? Im dubious about putting stickers on and ruining the plastic headlamp "lenses". You never see LHD cars visiting UK bothering.....

Do you have halogen, xenon or led?

If u have Bi-xenons, u can switch the driving side in the menu, and the light will change accordingly.

If u also have a Columbus head unit, it will do this automatically based on ur GPS location - no need to do anything.

2020 Sportline 190 but no idea what bulbs i have 😞

They'll be led or maybe xenon depending on when it was built.

The good news is you don't need stickers. Oh the central display go to the car menu , settings, light .

There'll be an option to convert your headlights to right hand traffic

I think most EU cars use a "flat beam" light output, so they don't have the angled bit

You think wrong.

Although for new cars with xenon or LED headlights they may well have a flat beam pattern regardless of whether they are made for the EU or UK market.

BPL is correct about EU drivers not bothering, its because they have no idea, there are not the entrepeneurs and chancers out there with the scare stories to exploit their god fearingness, for that you need a UK company 🤣

A Google translate of their French sales pitch:

Your England headlight adapter headlight stickers. The headlights of vehicles
traveling on the European continent are specially designed to drive on the
right side of the road. Therefore, when driving on the left in England
regarding your headlight adapter, you may dazzle oncoming motorists with
your headlight adapter. This is dangerous with your England headlight,
illegal and should be avoided day and night (especially in rainy or foggy
 weather, etc.).

In my experience French garages and accessory shops have no idea that there is even a difference. Ask for headlamp deflectors and the response is gallic bafflement. Once you explain the problem they may agree that it's a good idea, but "sorry M'sieur, never seen them". I generally had to order them via Amazon.
