Automatic central locking not working while driving

Recommended Posts

Hi... This morning on my way to work I noticed that I kept hearing a clicking noise every so often and realised the car was trying unsuccessfully to automatically lock the doors when up to speed.  I also tried it manually by pressing the button near the gearstick while queuing in traffic but it still wouldn't lock.

The central locking all worked with the key fob when I got out of the car but I thought it sounded a little less of a positive clunk, but maybe that's just my imagination.

Has anyone else had this ?

I'm wondering if this is a sign of a deteriorating battery.

Car is Superb III 2018, SE Tech, Petrol, Manual, 32000 miles.

Thanks

I think your conclusion is probably right.

I've had that problem, generally in conjunction with the driver's door not locking/unlocking when the other doors do from the key fob.

Never got to the bottom of the problem, but it did go away after I gave the battery a 24 hour charge up.

It's happened a couple of times in the 3 years I've had the car, but not in the last 12 months or so.

Definitely worth charging your battery before shelling out for a new one.

mine decided to mess with this the other day... but then it was -26C, so I put it down to some moisture in a lock and a "safe" signal from a door not being transmitted cleanly.

Thanks for the replies.... I haven't really had the problem since I posted, possibly seemed a fraction of a second delay between manually pressing the button and then locks engaging when I tried it again later that day, so I've bought a battery/alternator tester and will see if that throws anything up, otherwise the car may just have been having an off day.
