Carista error message

Featured Replies

Ok, had a flat battery yesterday, recharged overnight, looked at Carista and there is a fault found, one of many but the others allied to the battery prob.

fault    PO191 fuel rail sensor'A' circuit range / performance.

What does it mean?

I am not currently at home so difficult to interpret!

Greatful for any info!

ok, thanks for that,

where would i find the fuel pressure sensor G247?

  • Author

thanks for that, i'll look tomorrow!!

Hi

Before you get too carried away, it's always possible that this fault code is spurious and is also a result of a low/flat battery.

I would be inclined to clear it, then check back from time to time to see if it reappears.

Starting to have probs restarting the beast when the engine is hot, it sort of fires up and then dies, when the engine has cooled it starts ok and is then fine.

OkNow had a look, and a photo, a bit different to the Langer's link, my engine is a CFHC unit.

The engine started first turn this morning rolling at 500rpm, no reaction to the accelerator pedal, Switched off and on again this time up to 900-1000rpm and a reaction to thhe accel... pedal, any suggestions please?

I will VCDS it this afternoon and post the readout!

Have now run vcds ---  i think the only relevant section is as above, all the rest(lots of 'em) relate  to the flat battery situation!

So the fuel pressure sensor is fingered, anyone got a part no. or is it a standard piece? I presume it just needs replacing!

Below is another photo, in which centre stage is the pressure sensor I think, can you confirm please Langers?

Looks to be in the right place and connects to a fuel rail so I'd say yes :)

Might be worth logging the value it returns over a drive with VCDS?

It could be the sensor, wiring or an actual fuel issue. I assume the fuel filter has been changed at least once?

I'd probably double check the wiring and connector for damage and then check the fuel filter for any signs of swarf on the off-chance the HPFP has an issue.

Plenty of threads mention similar faults, none go as far as a resolution that I've seen :notme:

edit:

Over on an Audi forum, a similar issue is fixed by a ECU update: https://www.audirs3oc.com/topic/7573-g247/

There does seem to be a newer software version for your ECU that still pre-dates the emissions fix updates. Might be worth looking on erwin for an TSB/TPI related to SW:6890.

Might be worth checking the fuel tank lift pump for debris too, it's only a 10 minute job.

Many thanks for that, yes it has been changed about 2 years ago, just before the French MOT equivalent, and, I did in fact open up the fuel filter earlier this year, it all looked / seemed pristine, will have another look over the weekend though.

So why would the engine run if the  pump was pulling cr*p  up?  --   Yes I realise the crud could drop away if the engine stopped!

I had a low fuel pressure error on my old Touran during a VCDS scan for another matter, it ran ok without obvious problems so I was advised to check all the 'quick and cheap' fixes before shelling out on expensive parts.

Cleaned, and with error codes erased it ran ok afterwards and never returned.

As a wild thought, could this problem be battery related? I have had the battery on slow charge overnight, I will check voltages later, it's lashing it down here currently(sorry about that!)I have also found a G  247 sensor sort of locally for around 35€, a trip to collect might highlight if the battery recharge has sorted the problem that trip is also about 30 miles!

After a slow overnight charge , disconnected and after an hour battery voltage 12.7, this morning 12.46, I have been trying to find relevant postings, can't, are my readings ok, is the battery ok?

Been for a 5 mile jaunt, so far no warning light indications!

Here's to touching lots of wood!

It would appear my problem may be battery based, this morning the reading was 12.17, so am slow charging again, in the hope it might regenerate the battery slowwly  --  I suppose this is a result of lockdowns due to Covid, the car having only being used on short shopping runs.

  • Author

Ok, battery reading 12.9 after slow charge, cleared all VCDS errors, covered 50 miles, with 6 or so stops, got back home ran VCDS again , no logged problems, so verification I think,  it has been a battery problem!
