Wireless Carplay not working

Featured Replies

Wireless carplay is enabled by bluetooth but uses WLAN for transfer.

Just add the phone over bluetooth like any phone. Then it should ask that do you want to use the phone with Carplay or just bluetooth. No wired connection needed.

Could this help?

When i do that, the car wants to switch on wifi in order to connect, therefore not succeeding due to not being able to turn it on.

Has anybody tried a factory reset on the infotainment system? This is what Skoda customer services have told me to do with mine. I can’t do it at the moment as the car is in for repair!

I doubt it’ll help. As stated, my car has been to the dealer, they hooked it up to their diagnostics, and found nothing. No menu, no hidden activation, no trace of wifi at all. Waiting on a official explanation from Skoda…

I have exactly the same issue with my newly delivered Octavia. Impossible to get Carplay working wirelessly despite numerous attempts of factory reset, pairing / unpairing. The car prompts me to switch on Wifi and there is no menu item for that.
I will talk to my dealer next week and let you guys know if I get any useful feedback.

Sounds to me like, maybe due to the chip shortage, Skoda are shipping cars with components for the WiFi missing - but without telling anyone?

Wouldnt be the first time. All those shiny ID3 1st editions (20,000 cars) lacked chips which meant they could not be updated wirelessly (a key advertised feature) even worse for the owners the hardware could not be installed post production due to the way its built the dealer would have to strip the car down to the bone. this was even before lockdown.

I would run your VIN number through Skoda Australia recall website print off the recall report and hand it to your dealer. the recall codes are global so if there is something then the dealer will be obliged to search it (advice I got from this forum and credit due to the original poster, sorry I cannot recall your name).

Another possibility is they installed an early version headunit?

Got a call from the dealer today and I quote “Skoda haven’t given us a definitive answer whether or not the car was produced with that function. They suggested a ‘procedure’ to perform and see if that fixes things” …will be going there in the afternoon…keep you posted

Seems it's a common error. I got the car 4 weeks ago, I'm based in Sweden. Got no WiFi in the settings and no clear answer from the dealer. According to them they have cars that been delivered without wifi working, that some how started working after a while and are asking me to wait and see for any coming updates...

After my latest visit at the dealer, the so called “procedure” Skoda suggested was a plain factory settings reset…. Naturally nothing was fixed and the result was sent back to the factory for hopefully a clear answer on the issue. My dealer is as much fed up with them as i am (overall about the lack of info they are giving them). He suggested that if the functionality is officially not installed (whatever the cause is), i should file for a compensation. When I get the response will give an update.

I got info from my dealer that there will be an update of the system next week. He was not sure if it would solve this tho. If not he wanted to take the car in for a few days to investigate...

I got a new Style with 10'' Bolero and system ending with J in January.

WIFI was missing from settings and naturally AA didn't work wirelessly.

I was really pushing my dealer that something is wrong and finally yesterday I went to them and they connected to car - probably with decoder or something and they manually activated WIFI. It was disabled in factory. Don't know why - and they don't know either.

Now - There is WIFI in the settings and Android auto works wirelessly without any problems.

Hope that is solution for others with 10'' Bolero with missing WIFI in settings and AA not working wirelessly.

So dealer called me today, went in and they performed another procedure, and now wireless carplay is working! They said it was the coding. Also, they said something about their diagnostics tool not picking the problem up, so they used their older one with older software which did work. Note my car’s software version wasn’t changed.

Sounds like the coding is now being set wrong in the factory as so many recent build cars have WiFi disabled and missing from the menu?

I'm glad I just found this thread - I have been posting about the same issue in another thread, but it looks like I have exactly the same problem: no Wi-fi menu in the settings at all, and no AA wireless. I hope the solution is the same - a simple update/settings change - and not that they simply didn't put wifi in the head units due to chip shortage..

Has anyone else managed to get this resolved yet?

As I have said previously, there is a wifi module in the car, it’s not enabled by default for whatever reason from the factory. Go to your dealer, if they say they cannot figure out the way to turn it on, ask them to use an older scan/diagnostics tool. As stated, my dealer said their tools somewhat recently received an update, but fortunately they had one with the older version laying around. Older one showed the disabled wifi menu right away,  newer one found no issues…

@Pettson and @PetrolDave just wondering if you managed to get this sorted yet? I have had a call with my dealer, who was absolutely clueless, and am going to arrange a return to dealer for a look as soon as I get some time. Was hoping others had got it fixed and might be able to help me tell the dealer what needs to be done? (assuming they are as clueless when I get there as they have been on the phone..).

Sorry Dave, crossed wires (mine)!

I meant to flag @Lee_P and @AdamK321, especially as they both sound as if they might also be in the UK. Would love to get this fixed.

Has anyone done a scan of their car with either VCDS or OBD11?

They'll probably show up if the car has Wi-Fi system installed, but disabled for some reason.

I wouldn't really know where to start, but I'd be very interested in trying. If anyone vaguely local to Chichester has such a setup and wouldn't mind running it over my vehicle I'd be keen to give it a go.

I got a time at the dealer in the ens of the month. They said they got an update that they think will solve it, they were referring to TPI 2066197 (not sure if this is an internal code or skoda code...)

I'll update with progress after the dealer takes a look at it again.

Thanks @Pettsson for the update. So was this a problem they were aware of?
