Front assist grille trim

Featured Replies

i have just ordered some replacemtn trim to as i have lost th eoriginal bit. I think when i infortunately hit a cat running across the road!

The part costs about £13 from Skoda however i have been told that the front assist will require recalibrating if i have had a warning about front assist not working, which i have had.

To calibrate this they want £250 however?! Anyone know where i can get this done for about a 10th of the price? I asked why so expensive and they said they have to get a specialist in to do it?

Id rather leave the fault as all it does is warn if i am getting too near too quickly to an object or car in front. HArdly worth calibrating in my opinion.

Cheers,

Classic case of crappy dealers not giving a rats backside about their paying customer. They'll do all the unnecessary work if you don't know better, because it's easier to not explain things.

When you get too near too quickly, it flashes up this front assist warning. This is the system working correctly does not require calibration.

If you get warning that adaptive cruise and front assist not available, this is where the radar needs calibration.

The OP has stated,

1. Front of car struck a cat and that trim is missing.

2. Has had warning that front assist is malfunctioning.

To me dealer is correct that it needs to be recalibrated. But there are independent specialists that can do this that may cost less than a dealer. The dealers dont often have the equipment  themselves and sub it out.

Google ADAS recalibration.

Its up to the OP whether or not they want to repair it, but I know that on my insurance i have declared my vehicle has brake assist technology in the questions presented at renewal,  as its now quite common place across  many vehicle manufacturers,  so if faulty it could potentially invalidate an insurance  claim.

Oh my bad, I misread. I thought there was a misunderstanding between front assist warning and warning about front assist not working.

Thanks guys. i have contacted skoda Stockport again and they have stated its £350 not £250 to recalibrate! I have told them the front trim has fallen away, must not have been fitted securely and the sensor is faulty and requires recalibration under my warrantee period. They have stated that it needs diagnosis at £60 to see whether its covered by warrantee. i will cause a fuss tomorrow when i pick up my replacement grille sensor cover. My insurance does not ask front assist cover questions.

I ain't paying £350 for a recalibration. i cannot afford it. full stop.

Skoda have also stated that these things are really sensetive and any slight knock can affect calibration, so what's to say after I've had it done it wont fail again. Only had the car 3 months!

Maybe find a decent independent with the right kit for calibration. Just for example: https://www.vw-retrofit.co.uk/product/front-radar-calibration-service/

It's not 'super' cheap but much better than a dealer.

The kit to do the calibration isn't cheap and it can take a while to set up so it's not surprising it's expensive. Hopefully in time it'll get cheaper :)

You can recalibrate the radar using OBDeleven. You reset it and just drive for about 10 miles of mixed motorway and town.
