Headlamp misting

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a problem with my headlamp covers which are misted inside but the skoda dealer says that skoda will not replace them under warranty unless water is streaming down inside them or sitting in a puddle inside. Has anyone else had this problem

Perfectly normal and perfectly acceptable. Halogen bulbs used to get hot hot and allowed the moisture to evaporate. LED and Xenon bulbs run much cooler so they never get rid of all the condensation fully.

I had this on mine a few weeks ago.  On the old passat i used to put some sachets of silica gel on the inside of the bulb cover, seemed to help a bit.

+1 for this. Usually happens in damper weather and not specific to the Superb.

totally "normal" unfortunately.

i found removing the back headlight cover and driving around for 15-20 mins, seemed to clear up the lens.

otherwise it would sometimes take days for it to clear up.

Annoying but it’s fine, even says in the manual that this will happen

Modern lamps don’t produce heat to dry it out.

3 Basic solutions :

Park it in warm dry garage

Park it facing sun on dry sunny day

Try and get some moisture absorbing crystals as close as possible to ventilation hole

4th solution - Ignore it!

Same on mine when I wash it (tail lights too).

Surrey John's advice about parking in the sun is the best you'll get, it disappears pretty quickly

Ask your wife a tampax. Not very glamourous, but way more efficient.

It's tip used by undewater photographer to avoid mist in the water resistant casing of their camera. ;)
