Amundsen SD card compatibility, map upgrade & hidden slots

Featured Replies

I purchased a 2016-plate Fabia SEL last Friday, and this was fitted with an Amundsen. System information is attached.

The SD card supplied with the unit is 16GB. The maps appear to be from 2015.

I have a few questions:

1. To update my maps, do I delete the existing contents of the SD card? I've found the update portal on the Skoda website.

2. Is it possible to put media on the maps SD card as well (assuming card were large enough to fit both)

3. It looks as though the Amundsen in the Fabia has two SD cards. Two slots are referenced in the menu, but only one is accessible in the glove compartment, but this video shows the dash of another Fabia with an Amundsen system, with the unit haing two SD slots, which leads me to suspect the second slot is concealed. Has anyone else managed to pull apart their glove compartment to access this other slot, and did it work?

Is there any value in any firmware updates that might be available for this unit, or is it not worth it?

Ad. 1. Yes, the best is to have SD card formatted under FAT32 with cluster size of 4096 bytes.

Ad. 2. No, this will not work

Ad. 3. Yes, you can use SD card extender to use second SD slot, it requires also one of adaptation channels to be changed to enable second slot.

Thanks for your reply! :D (and for your private message)

Just realised I never posted the link to the video I was referring to (fast forward to 13:20):

OK, so regarding:

1: It's safe to remove the contents of the SD card? Don't want to find that I've stopped it working irreperably, but at the same time I understand that as the card is almost full, space will have to be freed up to fit newer maps on there.

Picture of the card itself attached.

2. Understood - so I take that to mean I would need to use dedicated cards each for media and maps. That would be my preference if given the choice anyway. :)

3. I've Googled "SD card extender" and have found options such as this - I take it that's what you meant?.

It's interesting a canbus configuration change would be required, even though the unit offers "SD2" as a source!

Ad. 3 - yes, that's what I emant.

CANBUS? I have never heard about such requiremens, only adaptation channel as I mentioned previously.

Buy a bigger SD card, you can go cheaper way doing this or less cheap. :)

I think it needs to be a Skoda SD card to work.
