Since the new Scout doesn’t have a topic, I opened one. Here is my review. Wish who ever ordered the car left wood trim.

Fabric on Scout seats looks little bit retro but in modern cool way, wish it was an option for other trims. This model is the eTec 1.5 TSI with 150 HP MHEV as FWD.

Yes there is now a FWD option instead 4x4.

But why would you want a Scout with open diff fwd? To me it doesn't look any better, you lose fuel economy and gain nothing in return.

You would gain fuel economy, the 4x4 system even though the drive is decoupled most of the time has a lot of transmission drag through the transfer box and propshaft, the manufacturers fuel consumption figures are significantly higher for the 4x4 variants compared to the FWD ones.

Not sure why you are speaking about looks, they should never be a deciding factor on whether to have 4wd or 2wd.

Plastic trims and style over function is something that is often peoples deciding factor.

Also the often implausible Co2 g/km  & WLTP / RDE2 figures,  given from the World Wide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure is not accepted world wide or really real world testing with people in real cars on real roads.

I mean you lose fuel economy vs a normal Octavia. Scout has raised suspension, or does it not?

Tyre size and bits of cladding do affect aerodynamics, thus affect fuel consumption more at higher speeds

The 4x4 system also adds about 90kg to the mass, so carrying extra deadweight, it’s similar to carrying about 3 or 4 25kg bags of cement.  So you can always pop to local DIY store and drive around with some extra weight to see effect.

The only Octavia with 4x4 option in UK costs £1445 more than 2wd version.  So unless you live in the mountains that extra is lot more than very good set of winter wheels and tyres would cost you to add to 2wd

I understand your comment now having re-read the first posting, they offer a 2WD Scout, I agree, what is the point!

*Both* 4x4 and appropriate tyres are an option of course.
