DSG gearbox emergency mode

Featured Replies

So yesterday car was taken to main dealer for three software updates.

Whilst driving today the gearbox went into emergency mode, with no reverse gear available. As I had stopped in a place where I needed to reverse to get out (stupidly) I had to call recovery. Once the car was jacked up (to put dolly wheels under the front wheels) the gearbox released itself (I saw the movement in the front wheels when the weight was taken off them). The car then was able to drive normally, but with an error symbol, so off it went back to the dealers.

Anyone else had problems with the DSG gearbox? I have done 22,000 km.

Dealer is adamant that none of the updates yesterday were anything to do with the gearbox, I am waiting for their diagnostics.

Apparently there is nothing wrong with the car, just a glitch with no other fault. Let's wait and see...

Time will tell.

If it happens again you can leave the car with them and they can get Factory Engineers in to find out what is unusual with your car and they will then know for the odd other car that has the same issue.

A glitch that leaves a car requiring to be uplifted is something wrong in the real world just not the VW Group trained technicians world until it happens to them or senior management.

(It was when a World Wide Recall was called on DQ200's in 2012 but which excluded Europe until service a service campaign was needed in 2014, then another in 2017, then another recall started in Australia in 2019 covering back over the previous ones.)

Just picked the car up. And i quote:

If it does it again, bring the car back to us immediately and we will order a new mechatronic unit, under warranty. But there is nothing wrong with the car that we can see???

Not very reassuring.

I guess its just another 'feature' of the Octavia Mk4!

Translation - no fault codes appeared on ODIS so we don't know what to do.
