Mine does the same. Will wait and see what the experts say.

What engine do you have? Your engine code will be beside the spare wheel well IIRC.

1.2 htp :)

Okay, so that gives us the option of BMD, BME, AZQ, or AWY. Which one of these codes is yours? Chances are it'll be AZQ or BME with it being a combi as I haven't heard of a 6-valve estate. :)

the sticker has died of old dirt sadly.

but i think the car registration papers share a light on it.

type: SE AZQX01

Thanks. That, to me suggests an AZQ. :)

would that mean i should go to dealer to have them read in the cruise control?

It'll depend on the on-board supply control unit (thanks Pete) of your car (someone with more knowledge can back me up here), and you will need the specific indicator stalk that includes the required switchgear for cruise control. :)

Also, the OP has a Fabia 1.2 HTP, and Tech1e who has fitted loads of cruise control kits once said that the 1.2 engine might not be suitable due to low power...

I know that thread too, Lee. I reckon only the 6-valve would have issues really. The 12v would be okay in my mind as it can sit really nicely at 70 on the motorway, even on some hills. :)

EDIT - cruise control was available except for the 6v 54bhp model. At least that's what I can see.

VCDS autoscan will tell you the part number of the Onboard Supply Control unit (often confused with Central Convenience unit which isn't relevant here) at address 09 Central Electronics.

Needs to start with 6Q0 or 6Q1 rather than 6Q2, I believe.

e.g. (in first orange rectangle)

Corrected my post accordingly.

I keep meaning to do a Guide thread with pictures of the two units, their locations and functions; but never seem to get round to it.

It doesn't help that there are so many names for each of them, some of which are very similar.

No, just drop the lower dash trim and look at the part number on the control unit!

Or buy a suitable cheap KKL cable and download VCDS Lite (freeware).  Examples of cables on UK ebay: vw kkl | eBay

Engine code is also on cambelt cover as well as on first few letters of "engine number" on V5.

Thank you. I knew it was on a cover, but wasn't sure which.

I can't remember where. It was the Indi that changed cambelt last that showed me where. I recollect that it was visible with the cover removed.
