Electrical squeal on the vRS

Featured Replies

Can anybody shed any light on this before I ask the dealer?

In my Fabia vRS when it is stood still with the engine just ticking over, I often hear an electrical squeal - the sort you might find from an old CRT monitor, but very quiet. If I turn something electrical on, ie the lights or radio it goes away, and also goes away when I rev the engine, ie to set off again.

It may be normal, but I don't want fried wires somewhere in the car, cannot pin point where it is coming from, but it is more towards the back of the car I think.

might be something to do with the steering im not sure, i no with a friends mini one it whines all the time and this is due to the steering it might be a simular problem

It could be the fuel pump?

Hi

You get a similar sort of high pitched sound from mine if the ABS / Emergency brake assist has prepared but has not had to trigger. No idea what components is making the noise though.

That could sound quite plausable Chris - I will make a note of when it happens, if I have braked hard or whatever we have the answer.

 Thank you!

My dealer didn't have a clue about that! :thumbdwn:

Also possible, I find that sometimes the turbo vanes have a mind of their own and will sometimes turn in a spin the turbo up at idle. It seems to just do it for a while then lets the turbo speed drop a bit. You can hear it ramp up. This is also a high pitched whine.

Id say the PAS pump is whining a bit as it pressurises the system.

I think it's deffinately something to do with the brakes. Mine does it sometimes when i pull up at lights or a junction, but the noise stops as soon as i take my foot off the brakes.

Mine too - almost like an electronic buzzer coming from the rear.

I think it's the PAS pump. Mine makes a similar more high pitched but quieter noise than a Mini does. Sounds quite cool actually.

When you trun the ignition off you can here the PAS release pressure or something.again sounds good!

Mine has a different noise - definetly rear and definitely braking related.

Likewise here, if I sit with the engine running say to pass time of day with a neighbour after backing out of my drive in the morning, the faint whistle builds up gradually but slightest blip on the throttle stops it. Almost sounds like a slight air leak sometimes, but as you say could be the turbo vanes freewheeling.

I notice it if sitting to cool the turbo down before switch off.

Same here, cars always done it, it's a year old now so it doesn't bother me anymore!
