Mobile Phone Holder For Mk4.

Featured Replies

Could anyone recommend a mobile phone holder for the Mk4, that does NOT attach to the windscreen or will be low level centre console as I use Waze or Google Maps for navigation.

Would a Brodit mount from a Mk3 fit a Mk4?

Thanks

The question is will it work wirelessly whilst it's on charge?

Can I have Waze or Google Maps on the cockpit whilst on the move?

I like to have my phone on a mount where I can see it.

Yes, Android Auto wireless works seamlessly doesn't matter if you plug it in to charge or if you put it on the wireless charging pad.

No, you can't have it on the dash unfortunately, but the screen is at eye level so...

I have Waze always on, it's actually really nice how it works, automatically connects and opens Waze every single time, don't need to even touch the screen, except if I wanted to put a destination in obviously.

So I can get Google Maps or Waze to appear on the infotainment system screen, yes?

If that's correct I may have to see I can amend my order to have the wireless charging option.

I use Google maps exclusively on the infotainment screen via Apple car play. Works pretty well and I see no reason to have phone at eye level but I do have the brodit low down mount modified to take a Quadlock mount just so I have the phone screen available if I ever need it - I sometimes watch YouTube videos on it when I’ve stopped for my lunch.

Its a shame it doesn’t show the directions on the main dash screen but I’ve tried to use the inbuilt sat nav so I got those and it wasn’t any improvement in my opinion.

It would be nice to have wireless charging but if you can’t add it on don’t worry too much, a short USBC wire is not really much hassle ti use or one of those wireless pads another forum user is making is fine.

Yes, the maps appear on center screen.

Wireless charging is pretty pointless in my opinion. I got it but it pretty much only keeps the phone charged and doesn't give any extra charge (maybe my phone is too slow at wireless charging or it's the pad), also the phone heats up. And on short trips I don't ever take the phone out of my pocket.

Just now wondering if the A pillar grip and mount that I have on the Mk3 will fit the Mk4, in which case it's going to be a simple transfer.

It's just I'm a creature of habit, I like thing's to be at eye level and it's just so easy to give it a cursory glance.

This is how I got mine setup.

I'm sorry but I don't like that. It has the potential to cause issues with the little storage bin lid.

I'd be looking to do a discreet cable run under the door sill seal and up beside the A pillar to a wireless charger holder like Aukley or Baseus do. Time for more research I think.

Looks like a magnetic (MagSafe?)  wireless charger for an iPhone.

It don’t cause issues with the storage bin as the gap is big enough for the wire to pass through easily. The cable is run down through the a pillar trim then behind the dashboard.

It’s a MagSafe charger that I brought off Amazon and a ball mount that is stuck on to the dashboard.

I noticed its a magsafe one. I've been looking for a similar one. Can you link it? How did you attach it it?

That'll be attached with a sticky pad I'd have thought.

Yeah i'd rather have it attached a way not to leave a mark.

You can get special sticky residue removers, also nail varnish remover takes it off, but it can affect the finish.

I had it in my old Passat for years and removed with no issues

I brought it a few years ago off Amazon and they don’t seem to sell it anymore but there’s a few that look similar on there if you search MagSafe car charger.

It’s stuck on with 3m sticky tape that I used to fit it in my old Passat and removed with no issues

Then a brought a holder with a mount like this for a few pound again they don’t seem to sell what I brought anymore
