Should I skint myself to get a vRS Estate...?

Featured Replies

Fanks for help on this Makefish :)

Mind you' date=' I haven't even test driven a Mk II yet - I might end up not being impressed, although that's not something I expect given the consensus of the reviews I've read...[/quote']

Well I had a 54 Fabia VRS and absolutely loved it but during the 18 months I had it it becamse impractical as my Dad ended up needing a wheelchair. So rather disappointingly I had to change to a bigger car and an estate at that, something I had never ever thought I'd do. BUT I have fallen in love with it!!! Yes I do miss the sporty feel of my little Fabia VRS but the Octy 2 1.9 TDi Elegance Estate has compensated by being a great drive and great ride, is economical on fuel (averaging 58mpg on my everyday 50 mile round trip to work on mainly good A but some B roads too), has lots of refinements the Fabia VRS didn't have, but best of all I am so enjoying the extra space!!!!! It is just so convenient, I don't know how I managed with a smaller car. So I would recommend this car wholeheartedly.

It will be interesting to see what the Octy 2 VRS deisel will be like though I think the speed would be wasted on me as the 1.9 seems to have plenty of power for me. The only thing I regret is not having the leather seats, I wanted those but my husband didn't and we came to a compromise by having the Elegance instead of the cheaper Ambiente.

Anyway good luck with your choice, am glad I stuck with Skoda as car is great.

Not going with the offer on the black jobbie at Jacksons (although I think he might have had a little more to play with).

Took some sound advice from a friend in the trade - unless you specifically want a black car as first choice, don't go with one at all as the aggro is not worth it. Dirt, chips, paint swirls all showing up that much more (which I knew), and the one I hadn't considered - that it'll suck up heat, and as a dog transporter that's an issue.

Got a look at a glass guide, 7,500 was a very fair offer for my current motor, which is nice.

Should find out if I made a bonus within a couple of weeks - if I did, if I can still get shot of mine for the 7,500 and if I can find somewhere that'll do close to the internet price of just under 18 for the spec I want, chances are good. Those stars must align, tho...

On that score, anyone had any dealings with:

Ashmore Green, Newbury

Garland Motors, Aldershot

Jewson, Oxford

Thanks again for input.

Mark,

agree with you about Jackons...I've found that they aren't really the fussed about making deals.

I remember trying to trade in my Passat to them...I wasn'thappy with the part-ex...guy came back with renewed figre but all he had done was swap discount fromthe new car to the trade in.

Hence why I went to Sherlodge Garage in Gillingham for my RS....bought our SLX TDi estate from them and part exed back to them.

As an aside what sort of dog have you? SWMBO as just swapped a mk1 estate for a mk2 vRS hatch was quite worried as we have a big dog but fits in fine (Greyhound).

We've got a boxer. The hatch is OK for him but a design where we're less inclined to smack him in the head when we close the thing would be nice. Plus we do struggle to fit all our our gear in for family trips abroad (and that includes use of a roofbox - a bind on autobahns!! :D )

Have heard rumours of week 31 ordering for the vRS TDI, however i was saying i can't see a decent discount comming on that for a long while. :(

Do we have a rumoured price? 1.5K more (which is what Jacksons guesstimated) puts us firmly in the 20K bracket once we add the essentials...

a dealer suggested 19k for the hatch

What do you call esentials, I was just thinking climate and a jumbo box.

Essentials for me are Jumbo/Elec/DualZone, rear sensors and 18s (I reckon cars with 17s will be tougher to shift come second hand time). Also Estate is the jobbie for me...

Hmm i dunno can't see a reason for 18's myself although rear sensors and estate are good.

Because somehow Skoda haven't figured out how to effectively fill arches (BMW are the masters here) and even 18s look too small. Which is ridiculous on a Golf based car. Golfs, A3s, Leons et al don't have the problem...

I haven't spotted many Octy vRS mkIIs about, but I've only seen 18s on them, and they appear to be on all press cars. 17s I'm sure will be a sticking point at second hand time and I don't doubt that they'll retain the
