Should I skint myself to get a vRS Estate...?

Featured Replies

...to replace my current '03 hatch which has just turned "paid for"...?

Need the extra space in the back (now I'm a dog owner) and the extra legroom (kids grow). Loved my vRS, don't want to give up the vRS feel, but, man, will I be broke... It's like 19K vs the 14K I paid 3 years ago...

Sensible side is telling me to go TD, but impulse side is saying vRS...

None of us *need* a vRS...

I think you'll find one for a lot less than 19k when you start to look into it. Having driven one I can say it is one awesome car.

If you think your car is fast now try one of those, and if you can get a ride in a mapped one then all the better.

Obviously I don't know your financial situation but I would guess that if you financed your previous car then you'd be able to PX your current one and take a new one for similar possibly less than you were paying.

just do it  ........ you know you want to ;)

Octy vRS TDI? Or get an old Mk1 estate and a fun car ;)

Chris

Noo the vRS TDi Shoudl be something pretty special I think.

That is doubly so after seeing a GT TDI (PD150) golf go off at speed.

Chris

Need more rear legroom than the MK1 but can't go to a larger class of car (Mondeo, Vectra, etc) as the wife won't drive bigger motors. Options are Octy/Focus/Astra type estates. And I like Skoda more than any other affordable marque.

I'm fairly settled on new style Octy Estate, I know what I *want*, I'm just kinda sharing my quandry knowing that, at the end of the day, it's up to me and my conscience...

Hey Adrian :)

How do you spec these internet jobbies up? I saw one (genuine UK) estate which was a saving of about 1300.

Jacksons are running a deal at the mo with pretty decent discounts for existing customers. Not 1300 but last time I was there (looking before this deal) I was offered a decent trade-in on my car. Their deal + good trade (if still on) will go some way to redress the balance. Plus I don't then have to worry about selling my current car (tried selling a couple of cars that should have been easy shifts lately and it was a nightmare).

Downside for the deal is that the car would have to be in the country - I want estate, 18s, Jumbo box and parking sensors (life savers in my street), preferably blue with silver second choice.

Mark, try Citygates in Chichester - they have done some pretty stunning deals recently. Perhaps PM Steve aka Makefish beforehand as he seems to have a lucky streak with them.

There is a meet very close to you very soon, 15th June details of which can be found here. I believe there will be a remapped MkII vRS in attendance which I'm sure you'll be able to have a go in.

Even if you can't make it, go for it, like the others have said you should be able to get one for a lot less than list, a few on here have recently bought new MkII vRS hatchbacks at under

Didn't take you long to sniff that one out!!!

Best I can find through non-imports is around 1300 off list... If I can get within £300-400 of an internet price I'd rather buy from the dealer for less hassle come service and warranty time.

We'll see. I'm hoping to get to Skoda tomorrow afternoon. In the meantime, if anyone has spotted a mega-deal then I'm all ears...

I think Mr Makefish has been making calls on your behalf Mark.

He'll PM you later.

Churs :)

FWIW a trade-in deal on current car is pretty essential.

May/June 03 Octy vRS

37K

FSH

Silver Metallic

Sunroof and Sensors

6 Months Tax

12 Months MOT

Fully standard UK car, never modified

Skoda dog guard and roof rails optional!

Thanks again,

Hows this one, Ex Demo Octy MkII vRS Estate in Metalic Silver (2,500 miles), 18" Alloys, Cruise Control, Rear Parking Sensors, Jumbo Box & Dual Zone Climate Control.................

That is a very good deal, as said that it would depend on the PX situation.

Aye, I think they would be open to a bit of 'bullying'! ;)

I've got another Dealer on the case too, no reply back from them yet though!.

Makefish, sort me out with a decent discount on a VRs TDi when they come out will you :P Can't see that happening for a good long while :(

I thought Spetember was the quoted date for UK arrival.

I haven't followed the TD vRS story, but in passing dealer said this evening (I popped down with the family) that he reckoned a 170 bhp TD vRS was rumoured, but would be 07 earliest and at least 1.5K more...

WRT a possible purchase, initial deal is about 600 more than I can get at Broadspeed.com for the black job they have in the showroom with Skoda approved, dealer fitted rear sensors as opposed to factory fit.

There may be some leeway to play with on the trade-in value on the current car, but I'm not sure that there's any more to come off the new-car price. Jacksons do seem happy to allow the right buyer to come by rather than try cut a deal with everyone who comes in through the door to shift boxes. And I have to say I've been more than happy with their service and courtesy. Or maybe I just reek of being the pushover that I am :D

It's your money Mark, but if it were me I would rather cut the deal that you want not the one that suits the dealer. Just because he's been good to you in the past doesn't mean that you should pay extra for it. Like I say it's your money!.

PS. Second dealer I was touting couldn't get anywhere near the deal on the 'Silver' one I posted details of earlier.

Just checked What Car website. About 3 weeks ago Jacksons offered me 7.5K for my motor against a non-discounted, not-in-stock vRS estate which is almost 2 grand over what I should expect today according to aforementioned website (if I'm reading it right).

From what I can see, and if I want a car from new, looks like the best I'll manage is to stump up my car plus 11K (if I'm lucky)...

Fanks for help on this Makefish :)

I'm a bit old school in that I'm OK paying a little extra for decent service. Much to the distress of my wallet, I'm not one for hunting high and low for the ultimate bargain. This car is probably one that'll be with me for a goodly while, not to be chopped in at earliest convenience, and knowing it's been treated mechanically sympathetically from day 1 is a key factor. I know I should be more sensible, but if I'm gonna be spending a lot of money, I'm inclined to spend that bit more and suck it up to get something I'll look forward to getting into on a day-to-day basis - as has been the case with the current vRS.

Mind you, I haven't even test driven a Mk II yet - I might end up not being impressed, although that's not something I expect given the consensus of the reviews I've read...
