The Kia EV6 GT - supercar performance - well done Kia/Hyundai

Featured Replies

Top speed over 160 mph and sub 4 second 0-60 and a standing quarter in less than 12 seconds..................

Please post any detailed tests here for us EV fans to share of this amazing German/Italian challenging product.

Quite a car.

Someone might take one for a long fast drive at high speed on an appropriate road or even on a track to see just how far it can go with a full battery and people in the car.

Not Far as it has the same battery and motors as the AWD GTL/GTL-S with a bigger inverter on the rear motor and some body stiffening/suspension and similar handling/stopping improvements.

Since the GTL has the same battery, 19" wheels and a 316 official range, then I imagine turning the wick up and going from 19-21" wheels will drop it to around 275 official. The GTL-S has 20" wheels and is more like 300 miles, so the wheels definately have an effect. The AWD cars are getting 220-250 in winter conditions. then I'd say this is in the 200 mile real world (Without using all the performance, all the time)

Still a beast and still a respectable range vs a tank in a supercar, but...

Of course if they get it released soon and there are some available, then a trade in from a standard AWD to a GT could be a lot of fun.

We are back to in a supercar you pull in to a filling station and buy the regular or better fuel and flash the cash and dash and you are away in under 10 minutes.    So not a case of hare and tortoise.  It is hare versus hare but one needs longer to eat at each stop while doing a trip across Europe.

I like that anaology.

Having driven a few of those cars shown against it, including the Maclaren, they're all very quick and the Maclaren eyewateringly so.

It's a damn fast car and from the standard AWD handles well.

Little bit more info and talk with project leader...

What a total p!ss take if you get all the standard features with the not inexpensive car but you have to pay extra to get a AC Type 2 charging cable incase you need to use a public charger without a tethered cable.  That is if Kia are not going to include those with new cars.

Looks like he can not control the car in corners and if he was not on a one way road / track he could not stay on his own side of the road which is true of many quick cars and wide ones and heavy ones that really need lane assist out on UK roads because they are crap on 60 mph NSL roads taking corners if driven at 60 mph.

What is going on in the EV world ?

The Kia EV6 the European Car of the Year 2023 but its sale a falling big time .

Presumably aggressive pricing from other car manufacturers is part of the story.

Electric Viking quotes the Kia (Hyundai etc) plan to only have a third of their cars EV by 2030 which is out of step to most manufacturers.

Do they see much of Asia or other markets stikcking with ICE for well in to the 2030s ?

The Kia

I think you'll find the EV6 low sales numbers are down to a lack of supply as last time I looked they had a huge waiting list.

Is this their fault and weakness in secure properly supply and are they unwilling to pay the inflated price for these components ?

One on my cars came from a factory a few miles away, the Samsung XM3, aka Renault Arkana, and production was circa 80k and I have not heard of much production delays at Renault-Samsung but perhaps they have a deal.

Rumours are that Samsung may further cut chip supplies to Hyundai-Kia or re-enter car production in their own right as they have substantial chips and battery production and just need to re-add the actual car production which this time would be for pure EV rather than ICE or hybrid.

Interesting times ahead where big names could fall and others become the dominant mass car producers for the world.
