Skoda Octavia Head Unit Replacement Help? MK III

Featured Replies

Hello - first time using this Forum so thanks in advance.

Problem is - The touchscreen on the head unit is broken - some parts of the screen respond to touch most don't - Unfortunately we need to press the reset tyre sensor button for the car to pass the NCT / MOT!

Are options are, well more expensive that we would like. We're being quoted at least €1000 to replace unit. More from the main dealer.

I see units on ebay for under 200. Does anyone know if these will work without coding or a way to code them that won't break the bank,

Thanks again,

Brendan

.

Do you know which model you have? I upgraded my screen - assuming it's an issue with your screen - for about £150 with a 2nd hand one from ebay. If you don't know which model, post a picture of the model number from the settings screen.

That sounds better. So you just took the touchscreen from another head?

Attached a picture here.

It's annoying the system doesn't allow you to confirm things like restore settings with the manual knob 😭

Thanks

Screen does not need coding. Pretty sure that is an MIB2 bolero. Should be able to fit any MIB2 screen apart from the 9.2 Columbus screen. Just needs the VAG removal tools and maybe a tweak to the cable plug if the shape is off slightly. Common mod for this type of car.

If I got it wrong and you have MIB1 unit then you will need the matching screen which should be cheaper as it's older and less desirable.

A couple of hundred should see you done.

Be careful. The model number is the infotainment system, not the screen. You can see screen model number on the back of the unit in the photos. You could always remove yours to check the model number. The one in the link looks a slightly different shape. I'd stick with an Octavia one.

Hi Again,

Thanks for your help on this. So I purchased an octavia screen on ebay and replaced it. I didn't realise that the screen on the replacement is maybe an inch smaller and the display is zoomed in. Wonder is they're any work around to change the display zoom / resolution ? Or is it best to just try and get one with the same sized screen.

Cheers

Brendan

I don't think they did a smaller screen than your original for the mib2 system. Sounds like you probably got an mib1 screen as the replacement which won't be compatible. I'd get your money back as there is no way of making it work.
