Superb Mk III Ambient lighting not lighting up completely.

Featured Replies

I own a used Superb Mk III 2016, which comes with ambient lighting package, but one issue I have always had is that the ambient lighting doesn't light up on the passenger side.
Now, I went to the stealership and they quoted me around $700 for a replacement (for a whole set of 5), which I think is a bit too much for this since other lights are working fine.

Is there any workaround? Has anyone gone though something similar?

Is it a whole section that doesn’t light up at all (as if the wire to it has broken), or a section is only lighting up in some colours, or for part of it.

Or is it not working at all

First one obviously needs checking for loose or broken wiring

Second one would need lighting strip replaced

Third one would be the controller unit

Around 15cm of the lighting strip, from the passenger side, won't light up in any color.

It is kinda unlikely for a wire to be broken there since that trim panel has never been opened.

Heres my 2 cents, used to own an Audi A6, and it had ambient lightning done with 2 leds per strip, one on each side, pointed into a "light tunnel" not sure how to translate svjetlovod from croatian, sorry, but i had the same look on my ambient once one of the leds per strip failed, took it out, found a replacement led, soldered back into the "light tunnel", and voila..

Now mind you, the A6 had only white, it was not rgb, so not sure how its done on the superb, as sadly mine does not have the ambi light option!

There is 2 plugs that do this trim panels lighting, one for left and one for right. If you take the glovebox out completely you will be able to see if they’re both plugged in. Swap the plugs over and see if the fault changes to drivers side.
You’ve then eliminated the fault on the car or the strip and we can work from there.

I am going to try this tomorrow.

Mine stopped working all around a few weeks back. Trying to work through possibilities but so many to try. Done fuse checks, settings, profiles etc. Last to try this week is replacement headlight switch, after that forget about it as if it's the BCM not worth the cost. Can you take a picture of these plugs and will look at that. Went off suddenly while night driving.

The headlamp switch has nothing to do with it.

What fault codes have you got? chances of it being a complete failure of the bcm is unlikely.

So far only have a carista code of 527884 which is no help. Is it possible that it lost coding completely and that's why its off no matter what I do. Headlamp switch tried but still nothing.

So I was able to take the whole trim apart from the dash board and I found that there are only 2 leds lighting the whole panel with the help of 2 clear acrylic rod of 3mm thickness. The rod on the left side of the dash has developed minor cracks in it which is why the light doesn't travel till the end of the trim.
I will try to look for some replacements rods.

Exactly what i said earlier, had that happen on an A6! Should not be so hard to exchange!

SO did some digging on this code 527884 and turns out it's a Hex code for RGB colour Red which is the colour the ambients were when they suddenly went out. Still no fix but welcome any help from the group. Its not setting issue, thier turned on, tried other users with no luck, its only the inserted ambients as the footwells and door handles are still lit.

I recommend getting someone with VCDS to have a play with it.  I changed them to custom colours on my 2017 Superb and this happened to me when I changed them back to the original colours to sell it.  The strips stopped lighting up at all.  I can't remember exactly what I did but essentially I coded them out and coded them back in again and it all started working.  Sorry I can't be more specific, but it is worth a shot if you have nothing at all.

I make that more of a blue colour, and even so a fault code will not be a colour code so I’d so coincidence

what are you scanning it with to get this fault and can you post an actual scan/log and not just the code?

Hello,

Have anyone fix led strip or only way is the new one? I have the same problem.

Thanks

Not fixed as yet, either looking for a kind person near me with vcds or ordering myself

I will try this, thinking of buying obd11 pro so can look at long coding.

@Jaimeet I'm facing the exact same problem as you. Did you find any replacement rods?

@payc They are available on Aliexpress but unfortunately I haven't been able to find a seller that would ship to my country.
