BV17ZZM Is the previous owner still around?

Featured Replies

Hi all, I'm Nuno from Manchester and I'm about to pull the trigger on a Superb MK3 2.0 TSI.

Noticed the Briskoda sticker on the back window, is the previous owner still around?

The car have 44k miles, what should I look for? Is the Superb and this particular engine reliable? Any common faults I should look for?

Sorry for all the questions. 😉

You should look for a service history.

Receipts from the service showing what they did and and items to keep an eye on.

A haldex service.

And its never a good look to see a boot with car parts in it. It makes me ask the question why the owner felt it was necessary.

I understand what you mean about the oil bottle looking bad, but to be honest I do the same, always keep a bottle of oil and screenwash in the boot, in my case it's because I look after the car, check levels on a weekly basis.

Regarding the haldex it doesn't need any, it's the fwd.

Will check the service history and in the end of its not the right one I will walk  away.

Just curious about the common faults, every models and engines have some, one's less, other more. 😉

You can check the MOT history for free

Seems to have had lots of advisories or tyres and brakes (and one fail due to split tyre), and a tyre advisory last month.

I would look at the quality of the tyres, and suspect it needs a good 4 wheel alignment.   If you are going to change the tyres then seriously consider a set of all seasons.    Try and see if brake pads look thick (nearer 0.8-1cm than few mm) in which case they have been changed.

I'm aware about the mot advisories, the last mot was just the split tyre, so hopefully the others from the previous mot are fixed, but yes you're right, I will have a look at the tyres, discs and pads.

Didn't see the car in person yet, was not at the dealership because it's being prepared for sale, will see it and test drive it this Saturday.

Just got a phone call from the dealership, they are going to refurb the alloys and because I've put a deposit and have a test drive booked they are giving me the option to choose the colour for the alloys, nice touch that, choosed black.

Don’t think screenwash, oil and a few plastic bags with bits in constitutes “parts”, but it does constitute stupidity on the dealers part for leaving them in there, therefore I suspect it’s a trade in.

Yes, I've been told it was a trade in, and I agree with you, they should only take pictures and put the car on sale after being prepared and cleaned, there's good and bad professionals everywhere I guess....

Hmm if I saw the Briskoda sticker on a Skoda I'd imagine the owner to have been an enthusiast and someone that would look after their car. The extra screenwash, oil and bits makes me think that they were "ready" more so than having issues with the car, like if you saw an BMW with spare oil in the boot. If there were other parts I'd be more concerned, that being said the boot is cavernous.

I can see they've taken out the interior rear side panels and have put something else there - check if they have the original side panels. At least they have a rubber bootliner thrown in. I also expect them to have a spare wheel.

I would also check if the DSG Oil service has been done at 40k in the service history.

That's exactly what I thought when I saw the sticker, thanks about the DSG service hint, will check that Saturday, regarding the boot side panels I think models before 2018 don't have them, at least I saw more 2017 plates without them. 🤔

Mine's a 17 plate and it came like this. I spend more time opening them to get stuff inside out, so you might find the open space more practical.

Regarding the engine, it's the VW 2.0 TSI EA888 Gen3 model (CHHB - 162 kW (220 hp) at 4,500-6,200 rpm, 258 ft lb (350Nm) at 1,500-4,000 rpm), the same found in the Golf Mk 7 GTI, VW Tiguan 2, Audi A3 and Octavia RS. It's been designed to be more lighter and more efficient and has dual injectors, both port and direct injection.

I've read about the engine longetivty doesn't drop after a Stage 1 (ECU remap) if you are planning on doing that. That being said it is a FWD, so you may find the 220hp/350NM more than enough for launching it about and getting up to speed - get some good tyres and you'll be good.

Also check the ski-hatch latch works and hasn't broken, there have been some cases where the mechanism breaks easily. Same for the storage area on the driver side next to the ignition/Start button.

Thanks for all the info, don't know much about this engine so all the info is appreciated.

Had several petrol Hondas and at the moment a VW cc TDI 170, but to be honest diesel is not my cup of tea, back to petrol again.

Will have a look at the ski hatch and the storage area.

Hi Nuno

BV17ZZM Superb Sportline in Red.

I see this vehicle is up for sale again and it looks very appealing as I am in the market for a new motor. Any comments on this car would be welcome as it doesn't

seem like you had it for very long?
