Speedo stopped, power steering light on and fuel gauge up and down

Featured Replies

Hi

I see this has been covered before but without a definite answer. My fabia doesn't have abs and I can't find the location of the speed sensor.

Please could someone help me identify its location and also if anyone is aware of the problem and fix?

It was intermittent for a dew days but now my speedo doesn't work at all, the power steering symbol comes on permanently and the steering is heavier now when parking and the fuel gauge fluctuates like mad going around corners!

Pictures of anything that helps would be a great bonus

Many thanks all

Sounds like it might be an electrical problem(s).  Basic checks are battery post clamps are both tight. the cables are in reasonable condition, the earth connections are clean, secure and protected.  Then its on to wires and connectors to your dash and any associated earth wires and connections.

A higher level scan tool may help and always with electrical faults and fault finding having the car battery well changed and in good condition will help, power steering can be early to show signs of a low battery - but you may have more than one problem showing at once and sometimes because of low battery charge or poor connections.  Check condition and connections at fuses, fusebox, battery, relays where applicable.

Others will be along with info on speed sensor and other stuff but it would help if you gave more information about which model you have (see what's under my name, logo/wotsit.

Hi

I've just been lying on the drive and put my hand behind the nearside wheel.

I felt a loose corroded bracket with a cable in it going to somewhere behind the wheel. Pulled the corroded clamp off, ran my fingers to the end of the cable and fumbled with what felt like a connector.

Test drove and now all ok. Cable tied the wire harness in place.

I thought the speedo sensor was elsewhere on an earlier Fabia with no abs. I guess not.

Getting the tyre replaced next week and will check all connectors when the mechanic has the wheel off.

Thanks to this website I managed a simple repair. This from a gut who knows nothing about cars.

Fabia Mk2, 1200cc, 2007 model

Thanks for responses,  great website

Good news, well done - but I'm not sure if this will be the full cure of all but I know very little about mechanics so might be wrong.

Checking and cleaning connectors and earth points can often help or cure problems.

Add the Fabia Mk2 (1.2?) 2007 details to your name wotsit and it there each post (depending on settings).

Good luck.

What makes you think it doesn't have ABS?

  • Author

Hi,

A. Abs doesn't happen when breaking hard or on ice

B. No illuminated abs symbol on the dash when the Key is in the ignition.

It's defo resolved, been on a drive and all ok now.

I suspect your ABS is broken, and the dash light has been obscured to conceal the fact. Look under the engine ECU for the ABS module.

Compulsory fit since 2004 according to a quick googling.

Where do you get your MOTs?

ABS or no ABS, I'm not concerned with. As long as the car goes OK for the next 18 month's , I'll settle for that. Cheers

Hmm, might be a cheap/easy fix, but if you're happy driving a car that you know isn't roadworthy,  up to you.
