Engine Management Light - Dealer Charge For Diagnostic Check

Featured Replies

Yet another problem to report. Engine Management Light came on on the way home tonight. Car seems to run fine but straight on the phone to the dealer to get it booked in as I need it next week for an airport run. Booked in later this week but I was told of a possible £90+ charge for a diagnostic check if the fault was not considered to be covered under warranty.  Anyone know what could possibly not be covered under warranty at one year and three days old.

Unfortunately I don't have a Code reader.

Thanks

Why not phone Skoda assist.

Mmmmmgood point anyone have the number? To be honest I only have the number for Britannia Rescue in my phone. Never had a proper handover due to Covid.

Call Skoda Assist and say you are scared to drive.  They can read the fault codes.  You paid for that.   It is the AA that respond.

0800 526 625

Then Skoda Fixed Price Servicing and maintenance is £60 inc VAT for the first 30 Minutes of a diagnosis, and that diagnosis starts with plugging in to the OBD.

But no need to be paying that.

Crazy isn't it. My local garage, indy not Skoda, charge nothing for plugging my car in.

Crazy.......more like Highway Robbery.

Wait and see on Friday when it goes in.

Blocked DPF was mentioned to me as a possible cause but I do thirty miles a day on A roads so I'm not sure about that. Not as though it's used around town. Also doesn't the DPF have it's own warning light on the Mk4?

Thanks for the replies folks.

You should be able to press the assistance button (not the red one though)

Update

Took the car in to be told it was an O2 sensor but OK to drive. Told the part is on Backorder and would be two weeks!!!! It will be a month tomorrow (Friday) since the dealer visit and still no part. Forecast is sometime next week. Cannot remember which sensor it is out of the two wonder if they are the same part?

That is, quite frankly, crap. For a diagnostic check on a 1 year old car from a main dealer, I'd be expecting a free coffee and a profuse apology for the inconvenience, not a £90 charge. Absolutely stealing a living. Is this common for dealers across brands?

My local indy charges, but not that much, and mainly because they must get a procession of crap cars to plug in that they've otherwise not made any money from.

i dont think he has been charged the £90 fee

they only charge if whatevers wrong with the car is not covered by the warranty.

cant really blame them for charging if the problem was self inflicted

Just to clarify,  no there was no charge as there was a fault code present (and Engine Management Light  on), just having a moan about waiting a month + for the part.
