Towbar coding

Featured Replies

I have had a tow bar kit sitting here for a year waiting for some clues on the best way to get the coding correct. It is a Jaeger kit from DE.

They offer an app. for a lot of money and it is just generic so may nor work very well. Have newer options appeared yet as it seems crazy to have to pay so much to just connect the wiring harness on a modern car.

I mean, youve gone about it in a interesting way. How much was the kit and the app?

Ive never fitted a Jaeger kit so not sure how or what needs coding and if its compatible with the canbus network or if its a dumb setup.

If you were fitting a genuine towbar module with dedicated wiring we could advise on the correct method for fitting and coding, but with an aftermarket setup youll only be able to go back to them as they know how their system works.

VCDS instructions are fairly straight forward to follow and you will need VCDS for it, it can be done with other software like ODIS or VCP/OBD11 but you will have to work your own way of doing the correct coding as their might be some differences. Alternatively you can use the VCDS map in the Diagnostic section of the forum to find a local user with VCDS that will do it for you for a fee.

Hi. Need help as well. Got a genuine sviwel towbar installed myself skoda superb mk3 2016 se 150hp).

I have bought the trailer control unit separately ( 5Q0907383N). I was doing coding using vcds. All was good until i connected the caravan and trailer.. The porblem ia thta the lights are not working properly. Right turning light not working at all.. Left works with the brake at the same time.. I thought as it is aplug and play (my car was trailer prepared so all the connection was at the nack of the car already) then i shouldn't have a problem. My question is : do i have to reprogram the control unit to make the lights to work properly? Or there most likely will be a trailer to control unit wire that is not broke or not connected properly. Thanks.. I didn't wire anything as was juat plug and pay for me (2 connection outlet from the car fuse to the control unit and 2 from the trailer to control unit

Was the module off the same make and model? If not, the module will first require parameterisation then you can begin fault finding (if necessary)

Alternatively, have a specialist/dealer adapt the vehicle software using the software adaptation code. At this point, all of the necessary control modules will automatically be configured correctly and the tow bar will be recorded against the vehicles build data. We can do this for vehicles in the UK
