ABS

Featured Replies

I’m at my wits end here. ABS light been been coming on. Failed NCT. Many mechanics seem to not want to go anywhere near this. I’ve changed the sensor and the wheel bearing ( the magnet was worn down). Since changing these it comes on less. But still comes on, specially after breaking hard to test ABS. I’ve followed the cables and no damage is shown anywhere. Disconnected the module under bonnet and tried continuity test ,could not get a beep out of it . The bottom line is even if the light was off when bringing for a retest it’s going to come on once they test the breaks .
many advice? Thanks in advance .

Which corner of the car is the fault?

Rear left. I don’t think the issue can be the pump because when I jam the breaks I can feel the rear right still works.

Just to add these are the codes

Did you fit a genuine sensor or pattern part ?

Looks like wiring issues to me, too many separate faults to be a coincidence.

What would be a solution to fixing that ?

Was not from a Skoda dealer , if that's what you mean?

Get an auto electrician to check the wiring loom where the sensors converge on the ABS unit.

Should be pins 20 and 33 at the ABS module connector. Pin numbers  (ends of rows) should be marked somewhere on the connector. Count carefully!

Link those with a piece of wire, then test continuity between the pins (with wires fitted into connector if probes don't make reliable contact) at the loom connector for the rear left sensor.

If you get a beep, that shows both wires make it.

Test also that there is no short to chassis from that loop.

Might be worth buying an X-tool vag scanner as they can run through an abs check whilst telling you when to push the brake pedal, etc. They are around £40 and arrive in a few days once ordered.  They also do many other tests and put out the annoying ABS light, and air bag one, if you have accidentally fired it off.
