1.2 spaceback alternator removal

Featured Replies

Any help, my battery light came on today and eventually the engine threw its hand in.

Its not the battery as I changed that and its still the same.

Anyone had this problem?

I'm sure it's an alternator problem but need assistance on removing it for checking/replacing it as its very confined and under the oil filter/cooler.

There's nothing on YOUTUBE as 1.2 Rapids don't  seem to exist.

thanks.

On my Superb mkII 1.4 fitted with a 16v version of the EA111 engine I use the Haynes 5633 VW Golf "2009 to 2012 (58 to 62 reg) Petrol & Diesel" manual. Describes alternator removal/replacement/ inspection/brush replacement. Hope this helps.

There are some quite different 1.2 engines in the Rapid. Find out what you have first.

2 minutes will find this on youtube

Filmed on a potatocam and really showing inspection and replacement but you should be able to infer how to get it off.

Alternator problem easily diagnosed by checking voltage when the engine is running. 14.4 / 14.8V would be nice but anything below 13V or so indicates a problem (as long as you don't have all heavy electrical loads on).
