My Aircon not very cold

Featured Replies

1600+ miles and in the recent humid weather the aircon was cool but not cold, is this a return to dealer job?

It is not like the stone through the aircon rad. where it completely disappeared! it just does not seem cold.

Better to use a mobile aircon service; Be under £100 and will call at your home or work as requested.

@gumdrop maybe an idea for the knowledge before getting things reset or adjusted in the system  to take a thermometer in the car and once the AC has had a chance to take the interior to it,s coolest see just what the temp is.  Eg,. Does it get to 14*oC or lower when the ambient temp is at 20*oC or more.

I would not have a 3rd party messing about with the car with under 2,000 miles covered and give Skoda the chance to give a loud sucking in noise.   Maybe there is a young person you know with the knowledge that will reset the AC via the pressing of buttons.    Everytime I have messed about resetting from how the car comes from the factory I end up wishing I had left it to a child to do.

6 years since i messed about doing this, i have left it to competent people ever since.

I have a 71 plate and the air con is rubbish to the point I’m considering taking it into the dealers. I’ve had cars where you can see your breath, this car does not do that.

I think it's a case of "They all do that, Sir."   Our 2019 Karoq 190 TDI is exactly the same.  I believe we have WLTP to blame.

I have ordered a stainless steel pen thermometer, about £5 from Amazon.

These Fridge / Fish tank thermometers are about £1.99 each.  Sometimes cheaper than just the batteries.

(recently they have been a £1 or 2 more.)

Good for down a dipstick tube to check oil temps, in a airbox / air intake etc, and to have in the car or outside the house.

Now you tell me 😄😄

Just decided to try our thermometer (as above), and had to pay £4 for new batteries. Our other (non-Skoda) 3 year old car's aircon didn't feel very cold but it was 10 degrees. OK for now, but probably will need a top-up by next year. Bear in mind that these cars will need the new more expensive fluid, and a couple of years ago it was ~£200 for a top-up, although it may be cheaper by now.

EDIT: At Kwik Fit the old gas is £60, new gas is £130.

My Kamiq SEL has the opposite problem - the climate control doesn't warm the cabin up until you set it to something like 22C!

Ours is exactly the same. Our old Octavia you could set it to 20C and never have to touch it again, summer or winter. Kamiq heating not so good. Last time our car was in for repair the garage collected it and when I got it back the driver had turned off the Auto function and had set the heating to feet and face level. He obviously didn't think much of the Auto function either.

Just checked out our Karoq. Minimum temperature on a 2 mile trip was 6.2 degrees.

@Routemaster1461That is pretty cold inside a vehicle if it is not cold outside and in the car already.

Is that the temperature that it reads in between the middle of the car or at the seats and not at a vent?

How cold was it outside & what was the temperature in the car before starting it ?

Outside temp 17 degrees. Temperature at vent. No idea about the interior temperature, brobably irrelevant as aircon set on low both sides to give max cooling.

If inside is 22 or more it won't

But with an outside temperature of, say, 10C I very much doubt the cabin temperature is 22C or more.

That depends on the sun shining through the windows. Mine had an outside temp of 15.5 car climate set to 21 blows cold air to cool the interior down.
